The Sheer Beauty of a Golf Shot

I remember it well. I didn’t start when I was young. I was already in my late twenties but when I hit my first well struck golf shot it was one of the most magical things I ever experienced. In high school I played the big 3 – football, basketball and baseball. This was back in the late 70’s/early 80’s. We did have a golf team but golf simply wasn’t that cool back then. A number of my friends were already regular players and I resisted for a long time but finally decided to give it a go. Man, was it frustrating. I had no idea how to swing a golf club even though I was a decent athlete. Not a ..read more

Center of Gravity (or COG) (and, in this case, golf balance) is one of THE keys to virtually all success in sports, as it protects you from potential injury and also allows you access to stability and power. Balance is one of those weird things that is not discussed enough (or certainly not in understandable terms) but is critical to our generation of power and consistency on the golf course. I mean how how do you practice golf balance drills or are cognitive of your COG? What if it dramatically would change your game from a 20 handicap to a 10 or shooting in the mid 90’s to shooting in the l ..read more

Slow Motion Golf Practice
GolfDash Blog

I’ve been recently getting more into Tai Chi lately. Not specifically for golf. I was just interested in the “slowing down” part of the practice and just the physical beauty of it. However, the more I practice the more I can see its benefits – health, mindfulness, exercise, meditation – it’s all there. If you don’t know what Tai Chi is, it’s defined as: “a Chinese system of slow meditative physical exercise designed for relaxation and balance and health.” Now this isn’t the first time I have written about martial arts and golf. I wrote an article a few years ago called: Alternative Golf ..read more

GolfDash Blog

Hideki Matsuyama getting it done at Augusta Hideki Matsuyama made history by becoming the first Japanese golfer to win a major. The 29-year –old had to overcome late drama and slip-ups to earn the Green Jacket. The Japanese went into the Augusta carrying the weight of a golf-obsessed country deprived of the win for a long time. Every shot he made at  Augusta National Golf Club had the ability to create history. There are moments when the weight seemed too much when Matsuyama almost surrendered a five-shot lead.  He won the competition one stroke in front of Will Zalatoris, an Am ..read more

Golf Grip Pressure: A Hidden Key
GolfDash Blog
by Doug

Golf grip pressure is one of those things that is often so in the background of your awareness that you have no idea whether it’s tight, loose or somewhere between. A lot of higher to mid-handicappers tend to lean on the side of gripping the club too tightly and the result is often a slice. This happens because the right hand is gripping the club too tightly and the club head won’t release into the ball, it will be open at impact, resulting in a loss of power and distance. But it’s not just a slice that will result. It can wreak all sorts of problems with rhythm, timing, power and, of course ..read more

6 Odd Golf Products You Just Might Like
GolfDash Blog

It’s a bit difficult to describe what exactly are odd golf products. Let’s just say it’s something that sits a bit outside the norm—on the fringe shall we say. And that’s not bad at all. So take a gander and see if one (or more) of these unique products strikes your fancy. Birdie Juice Flask Ok, I’ll admit it. I do own this flask but in all fairness I do live in New England and it becomes very useful when that Autumn chill arrives. This one is of very good quality. It screws on type and the cap is on a lever so you never lose it, therefore no messy leaks and this version comes with a couple of ..read more

Scottish Golf Course Design
GolfDash Blog

Today we’ll look at the design ‘theory’ behind the wonderful world of Scottish golf course design. I’m talking about the old classic courses. That includes all the old greats in Scotland and Ireland as well as notable US courses like Cyprus Point and Augusta National. The man behind many of these classics is renowned architect, Dr. Alister MacKenzie. The Book I highly recommend reading his 1920 book Golf Architecture: Economy in Course Construction and Green-keeping‘. In my opinion no one should be allowed to design a course until they’ve read and understood this book. It’s as much about the ..read more
