Johannesburg – The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) on Workers’ Day condemned SA Steel Mills for “its cruel and inhuman treatment of workers”.
“Over 200 workers were suspended whilst they were on shift in the early hours of Tuesday morning, (30 April 2024),” NUMSA said in a statement on Workers’ Day.
“This is not the first time that NUMSA members are exposing this company for flagrant abuses of workers’ rights.

Cape Town – Sizophila Solontsi and Nomawethu Mabenge will make welcome returns to Test rugby after being named in the Springbok Women’s starting team to face Cameroon in the 2024 Rugby Africa Women’s Cup opener in Madagascar on Saturday.

Johannesburg – The African National Congress (ANC) on Thursday announced that it has set a date for the disciplinary hearing for former president Jacob Zuma.
Zuma was suspended from the governing party earlier this year in January for openly declaring his support for the new rival Umkhonto weSizwe (MK) party.

Johannesburg – Applications for special votes will close tomorrow, Friday, (3 May 2024), the Electoral Commission (IEC) has announced.
“In the last hours before the applications deadline, the Commission calls on registered voters who wish to vote by special vote to ensure that they submit applications as no late applications can be accommodated,” the IEC said in a statement released on Thursday.

Johannesburg – The annual pay package of MTN CEO Ralph Mupita has been hiked to a staggering R80.3 million, reports TechFinancials.
The increase in 2023 amounted to an additional R11 million compared to the previous year’s earnings, marking a significant development in his compensation package.

Cape Town – The fire at Table Mountain continues to burn on steep and challenging terrain on the slopes of Kirstenbosch, the South African National Parks (SANParks) said Tuesday.
SANParks said it has 40 firefighters from NCC Environmental Services and Working on Fire actively engaged in various areas along the fireline.
Firefighters have been battling the blazing fire in the Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) since the weekend.
