Santa Clause was good to me this past December. Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer and his merry gang of reindeer stopped by my house and Santa squeezed himself down my chimney with a fat dividend cheque for $5,874.36. Needless to say it was a Merry Christmas. On Boxing Day, after spending some time with family, I decided the cold was too much for me as it usually is that time of year, so I hopped on a plane to Mexico. Although summer hasn’t officially arrived, it feels like summer is here. With the sunshine, I like to get out on my bike and ride. We all know that the 3 major cost centres for families are housing, food and transportation. I don’t own a car and instead use my bicycle as my main mode of transportation to get me in and around the city to work and leisure, but also to enjoy nearby public parks and nature. I also celebrated another trip around the sun with a birthday recently. This meant a nice evening out with my parents for dinner at a local Italian restaurant. I skipped the birthday cake this ..read more

My Monster Money Haul for January 2024

This month was a record dividend haul. In other words, it was a monster money haul for me. But first, what good is passive income from dividends, if you can’t create experience dividends from travel with those you love? Travel This month I spent part of it at my vacation property in Mexico. I escaped Canada in late December and spent almost a month down south enjoying the sunshine and laid back vibes of the sunny beach town that is Puerto Vallarta (PV). I was fortunate to have my parents stay with me. They took the Master bedroom and I stayed in the guest bedroom. There are two bedrooms, two f ..read more

I heart my bike. I have never owned a car in my life. I’m 45 years old. I don’t even want to drive a car even. Not even the latest sports model or Tesla. I live in a big city and have lived in other cities larger and smaller in Canada and the United States. Cities make owning a car more of a hassle than a joy in my opinion. Where do I park the car? How do I avoid traffic (hint you don’t), and how much do I have to pay for the car itself, including insurance, parking, and repairs, simply for the privilege of having the car sit idle for more time than I will ever drive it? Even when I travel abr ..read more

Travel This month I spent a nice two weeks in Europe visiting cities such as Bratislava in Slovakia and Prague, among others. I was spoiled by the warm weather which allowed for several days of shorts and several coffees, meals and beers on outdoor patios in the sun. I only visited 4 cities which allowed me to spend several days in each place while traveling by train between them. Upon my return home, I booked a day for at home recovery before heading back to work.
