After month of itchy eyes, scratchy throat, an endless runny nose and out of the blue hive breakout we finally received a diagnosis. ALLERGIES ! I was relieved we got the diagnosis, because now we know how to treat it and possibly prevent it. When the pediatrician gave us the diagnosis, she also referred us to an allergy specialist. Always asking and/or accepting a referral is a great way to advocate for your child(ren). Seeing a specialist is beneficial for your child’s diagnosis because they are able to give you the latest treatment and expertise focused attention.

Nothing hurts a mother more than not being able to stop their child’s pain. “I wish I could help him” and the doctor says “I know mom. It just has to take its course. Our names is our identity. Names tell where we come from, who our family members and unfortunately which slave plantation we belonged to. Do you know what your name mean or the story it tells ? It is important to me that my children know where they come from, so I had no problem with them having their Ghanaian names be on their birth certificate. I even asked my husband if their traditional names can be their first names. I want my children to be confident with their names and African culture despite what the world may say. The information their names hold is pretty amazing and is a ..read more

Its March 2020, I just had sister and the whole country is in lockdown. Brother was also adjusting to a new baby and is going through a huge milestone; he was 3 months away from turning 2 years old, so developmentally he was going through alotttttttttttt. My son was stressed. With all what was going on came his first eczema flare up, it was huge ! His skin was extremly dry, flaky, gray and oozing of pus. Eczema was something I never dealt with, so I was in a frenzy. After educating myself, doctor visits and trying many products I was able to treat my children’s eczema.

With maternal health on the rise and moms seeking doulas and researching water and home birth, birth centers have also become an option for moms. Birthing centers are healthcare facilities where care is provided by midwives. Birth centers are also known for less intervention, better birth experiences and low cesarean rates.
I birthed my two children at the Vidone Birth Center located inside the St. Raphael Yale Campus Hospital in New Haven, CT and it was the best experience ever. It is by far the best birth center. Despite the emergency I had during labor, the staff at St. Ra ..read more

Those who grew up with me know that I live for the culture. I am a cultural gal. I read books on black culture, I am always promoting anything about culture, Black Culture, African Culture, Caribbean culture or what have you. Finally, in 2014 my dream finally became a reality. A dream thousands imagine. I studied abroad in Ghana, for six months. I’ve always been into African culture, before everyone jumped on the bandwagon and before social media. However, social media has been a great tool to educate the diaspora about the glitz and glamor of Africa. In our home it is important th ..read more

I grew up watching lizzie mcguire, cousin skeeter, all that, s club 7. Yes those were the days. Back then, those shows were my influencers, but that is not the same for my children.
Nowadays, kids have YouTube. My kids have known the YouTube symbol since months old. As a matter of fact, before saying “youtube” they would call it “red” lol.
