Island Batik Welcome to my stop in the Island Batik “Paper-Pieced Celebrations Blog Hop” hosted by Island Batik, using the 2023 Winter collections. The challenge for this month was to make a lap size or larger quilt using the surprise collection we received in box 1 back in January. Today, Kim (Chatterbox Quilts) and I are sharing our finishes in this last week of the hop. The products featured in this post were provided to me free of charge. As an Island Batik Ambassador I receive two shipments a year filled with beautiful Island Batik fabric. Included in these shipments are products from i ..read more

Round 4 and final round of the Saint Paddy SAL, are you making progress? By now your quilt should resemble this… The final round consist of 14 checkerboard blocks as shown in the image below. The download includes both paper templates and directions for strip piecing (patchwork) the blocks. Remove any paper that remains in the quilt back. Saint paddy piecing Choosing to FPP round 4 will take longer than following the strip piecing (Patchwork Only in dowload) method. Welcome to my stop in the Reflections Blog Hop, be sure to visit all participants for inspiration, and a few giveaways including the host. Reflections is a new Island Batik collection designed by Jennifer Fulton of The Inquiring Quilter. Those greens, how did I not throw some green in there! Thank you Jennifer for the opportunity to work with such rich, vibrant fabrics, they are more beautiful in person. Often times images you see on your computer screen do not reflect the true colors of fabric. Indoor lighting and even monitors change its appearance, here’s an example. This holds true wit ..read more

Round 2 Welcome to Round 2 of the Saint Paddy Sew Along. For this round you will cut/piece strips for your inside border. Island Batik fabric does not have a 1/2″ selvage on both sides, I only had to cut my strips, no piecing. For this round I will not give cutting dimensions in the post, you will find them in the download. Attaching borders After cutting and/or piecing your inside border strips: Find and mark the center of each strip. I find it easier to fold your strip in half and press a seam. Match the strip center and the center of your medallion side. Pin or glue baste in place. Match ..read more

What’s under my foot Welcome back to another Put your foot down, I hope you were able to sew something this past week. It’s supposed to be spring here and I am ready to plant something outside. Before doing that I’d really like to see what existing plants are here. Early spring grape hyacinth began popping up every where in the yard, I can picture Miss Emma (the previous owner) walking around and planting the tiny bulbs. Narcissus in white and yellow line the ..read more

Welcome to round 1 of the Saint Paddy SAL. If you are Irish (or not) you know that St Patrick’s Day is a religious holiday celebrating the Patron Saint of Ireland, St Patrick. The myth is that St Patrick drove the snakes from Ireland, and suggests they are referring to the Pagans. St Patrick brought Christianity to Ireland. To celebrate, traditionally the Irish picked shamrock and attach them to their lapels on St Patrick’s Day, attended church, feasted and enjoyed a guinness or two, or more amongst friends and family. The shamrock represents the Holy Trinity. The Irish don’t drink green beer ..read more
