I’ve enjoyed Ron Gallo – his music and his online persona – since I came across him a few years ago. He’s kind of a free-spirited wild card in that you don’t what you’re going to get with his music. Peacemeal will see the light of day on 10/9 via the fine folks at New West Records. Here’s Gall on the track below. “It’s an introvert summertime party jam celebrating alone time and isolation, but then after too much solo time starting to go crazy.,I think I wanted this song to sound like Will Smith’s outfits in Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, blending the jazz chords with an old-school boom-bap beat. S.G. Goodman – Old Time Feeling (album review)

Photo by Michael Wilson I have been spinning the shit out of MMJ’s latest, The Waterfall II. I think it is their best since Z. But during those repeated listens, an albums with ties to MMJ came out and it warrants your attention. Old Time Feeling is S.G. Goodman’s debut and it was produced by none other than Jim James. Opening up Space and Time, an old fashioned twang crooner that will immediately remind you of Patsy Cline; I thought I knew what I was in store for across the album. To say I was surprised by the title track that comes next is an understatement. It is still rooted to Americana ..read more

H.C. McEntire announces Eno Axis for 8/21 release

I have an unhealthy amount of love for McEntire’s work, both solo and with Mount Moriah. So I don’t know how I missed the announcement for the follow up to LIONHEART. The fine folks at Merge will be releasing this fine album on 8/21. Here’s some info from the Merge PR folks. Unlike McEntire’s solo debut, LIONHEART, which was recorded in sporadic bouts and fits while she was touring, Eno Axis is firmly rooted in place. After two years working all over the world as a backup singer in Angel Olsen’s band, McEntire came home to a hundred-year-old farmhouse tucked away in the woods of Durham, North ..read more

Photo By Bryan Derballa North Carolina’s The Nude Party is back with a follow up to their excellent 2018 debut. These fellas have put on a couple of quality quarantine sets as they readied their second release on New West. Here’s some more info from the PR team. Like most young bands suddenly thrust into a relentless touring schedule, in the two years since the release of their debut, the Nude Party experienced their fair share of stress, pressure, internal dynamics and personal turmoil. They had no creative outlet for all of it until they finally got down to writing again, which was a releas ..read more

photo by Megan Toenyes Been waiting on the follow up to 2016’s Real for; well four years. And based on this first track, it is gonna be a worth the wait. Oh, Lydia has also started her own label, Honey, You’re Gonna Be Late. Here is some more info from the PR team. Daughter–her first album in four years–marks the triumphant return of Lydia Loveless, and documents a period of personal upheaval, including a divorce and an interstate move away from her longtime home. Left feeling unmoored and adrift, Loveless worked to redefine herself, both in her own mind and within the context of the world. W ..read more

Pottery – Welcome To Bobby’s Motel (album review)

Photo: Luke Orlando I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Pottery perform live twice. And both times I came away impressed and both times I came away saying that’s the best I’ve seen a band recreate the vibe of late 70s Talking Heads circa Remain In Light. Montreal’s Pottery slots into the post-ponk genre but their use of propulsive rhythms courtesy of drummer Paul Jacocs makes these tracks something to get off your ass and move around to. Hot Heater was the lead single and it really does a great job of capturing their frenetic live show. In fact on Bobby’s Forecast, lead singer Austin Boylan asks ..read more

Photo – Grayson Whitmire Advertisement are a six piece of an interconnected group of childhood friends that grew up on the fringes of the Seattle area and their debut gets better with every listen. They’ve had various iterations as a punk band before landing on Advertisement. As I just so eloquently described them, they sound like someone blended up Kurt Vile with The Moondoggies and then sprinkled a liberal does of punk flavor on top. What does that mean? Fuck if I know, but I like it. Pretty Money is a slow burner that really leans into that Vile influence. The guitars weave around each oth ..read more

Photo Credit: Kristy Benjamin Sarah Tudzin, your main illuminati or hottie depending on your point of view, has had herself a year. Well we all have but she has had some other challenges as well in regards to getting her sophomore release out in the world. There’s a great interview on Stereogum that is worth your time. Here’s some info from the PR Team. Though it was tracked locally between drummer Tim Kmet’s rehearsal space and Tudzin’s home, FREE IH sounds like an homage to the bands you’d catch on club stages during a sleepless, electrifying cross-country tour. It’s a product of Sarah’s wi ..read more

Credit: Marcus Maddox Philly’s Corey Flood has signed to Fire Talk Records and is set to release their debut LP on 9/4/20. Corey Flood is Ivy Gray-Klein (she/her) on bass/vocals, Em Boltz (they/them) on guitar/vocals and Juliette Rando (she/her) on drums/vocals. This is a great track and I’m anxious to hear more. Here’s Ivy on the track below. “This song touches on themes that ripple throughout the album, like getting stuck in cyclical thoughts and struggling to articulate emotions. There was a period when I was disassociating a lot and just felt so numb and passive to everything happening ar ..read more

Photo Credit: Ash Dye I have listened to Fantasize Your Ghost countless times since I got a hold of it. The word that always pops into my mind is filthy. Sima Cunningham and Macie Steware are classically trained but refuse to be hemmed in by any construct. They are relentlessly ambitious in their music but it always comes across as human and authentic. I dug their debut, Parts, but this is a lovely leap forward. It’s almost as if that after a year of touring around playing Parts; they were like, “Fuck, we’re pretty good at this music stuff. Let’s kick it up notch.” The second track, Selling C ..read more
