The LITA Blog will now function as an archive of posts by the Library and Information Technology Association (LITA), formerly a division of the American Library Association (ALA). LITA is now a part of Core, but was previously the leading organization reaching out across types of libraries to provide education and services for a broad membership of systems librarians, library technologists, library administrators, library schools, vendors, and others interested in leading edge technology and applications for librarians and information providers.

Tomorrow the ALA fiscal year rolls over; LITA (along with LLAMA and ALCTS) dissolves; and we wake up as Core members.
It was an extraordinary privilege to serve you several years ago as President, and one of the hardest (though most rewarding) things of my life to be part of the team that initiated this transformation. I hate to say goodbye to this division that has meant so much to me, brought me so many mentors and friends, but I think subsequent events have thoroughly vindicated our efforts to choose our own future in unstable times.

Much has been happening behind-the-scenes to prepare for Core’s upcoming launch on September 1st, so we want to update you on the progress we’ve made.
At the 2020 ALA Virtual Conference Council meetings, the ALA Council approved the creation of Core, so we’re official! It’s been a difficult summer for everyone given the global situation, but this was a milestone we’re excited to reach.

Core Virtual Forum welcomes our 2020 Keynote speakers, Dr. Meredith D. Clark and Sofia Leung!
Both speakers embody our theme in leading through their ideas and are catalysts for change to empower our community and move the library profession forward.
