Manchester United came close to landing the signature of Xavi Simons from Paris Saint-Germain last summer, according to German publication BILD.
The Dutchman was re-signed by Les Parisiens from PSV Eindhoven with a €6 million buy-back clause last year and he was subsequently loaned out to RB Leipzig.
However, BILD claim that United made a transfer proposal worth €60m before his move to Germany.
Les Parisiens had already ‘agreed a deal’ with the Red Devils, but a move did not materialise in the end due to the player’s refusal to make the switch to Manchester.

The Red Devils are due to make multiple signings during the summer transfer window and a new playmaker could be one of the priorities.

The 27-year-old has been earning rave reviews with his performances in Italy since joining the Old Lady in July 2022.
