The Arkansas Public Policy Panel celebrated its 60th anniversary in December with Sulma Arias from People’s Action, in a two-day symposium and gala to celebrate the organization’s founding in 1963 by a multiracial group of mothers who traveled the state, speaking in churches and to civic organizations, to help build acceptance for school integration and promote understanding among ethnic and religious groups. It’s been a ‘Banner” season for Hoosier Action members, who gave testimony twice in the Indiana state legislature in January, and got a shoutout on the Why Is This Happening? podcast with MSNBC host Chris Hayes. Down Home North Carolina members are celebrating a big victory: the revitalization of the Granville Street Park. This park, in a Black neighborhood of Oxford, North Carolina, was allowed to fall into disrepair and was ultimately closed to the public by city officials. Last spring, DHNC members noticed that $2.8 in funds allotted to Oxford through the American Rescue Plan (ARPA) for COVID recovery was unspent, and the city had a multi-year surplus of more than $7 million.
