At the end 2022 I decided to take inspiration from Sarah who writes the Endless Distances blog and post a travel review for the previous year which I loved writing and taking time to reflect on my travel – it’s so therapeutic to write about your previous travels and think about the year ahead. I of course also highlighted the best gluten free eats from around the World that I’d eaten, and whilst I love writing these posts I didn’t think they would have that much interest but quite a few new coeliacs reached out saying that my 2022 post highlighted that gluten free travel is still possible and ..read more

Gluten Free in Croatia 2023 – The Sightseeing Coeliac

Five days before our weeks annual leave in July, we decided to book a last minute trip to Croatia. Paul and I had been to Croatia twice before and absolutely love the country. We had visited Dubrovnik on a long weekend with friends and also been on another ten day trip taking in Pula, Rovinj, Split and Hvar. Croatia is a stunning country, filled with turquoise sea views and houses with orange roof tops that glisten in the sun. It’s easy to see how it’s becoming more and more popular for tourism especially with it being cheaper than neighbouring Italy. I was diagnosed as coeliac for both trips ..read more

Gluten Free in Amsterdam 2023 – The Sightseeing Coeliac

Amsterdam is a beautiful city full of canals, bicycles and pancakes and thanks to a good deal on the Eurostar, Paul and I found ourselves spending a week over Easter 2022 in The Netherlands. With Paul’s birthday falling over this same week, we headed to Amsterdam the weekend after Easter to join friends and celebrate. We had previously only been to Amsterdam for less than 24 hours, due to an unplanned stopover on the way home from Thailand in 2008. We got stuck in Bangkok for a week when protesters took over and effectively closed the airport. It was extremely stressful, especially when you’re ..read more

In 2020 I decided to write a travel wishlist, and we now know how that year turned out for travel so in 2021 I avoided writing a similar post (especially as I could reuse the 2020 list). Instead I decided to take inspiration from Sarah who writes the Endless Distances blog and post a travel review for the previous year which I loved writing and taking time to reflect on my travel, and of course the best gluten free eats from around the World. 2022 has personally been a difficult year for me in my personal life which seems important to note, as I basically write a highlights reel from the year ..read more

Last updated January 2023 New York, New Yorrrrrkkk!!I have been to New York a few times over the last 20 years with family and friends, across all seasons. I love NYC and a Christmas visit is my absolute favourite as it is such a magical time to go and see all the Christmas lights, and of course eat all the gluten free treats. New York is a fabulous city for gluten free restaurants and bakeries, once you know where to find them.  London to New York – Virgin Atlantic We generally fly with Virgin Atlantic to the US and on our last trip to New York we used airmiles to upgrade to premium econ ..read more

When visiting a new country, I’m sure trying local cuisine or a food tour is top of many peoples list of things to do. Mine included, I absolutely love trying new things, and local cuisine is one of my favourite things about travelling – I just have to work that much harder to find it all gluten free! For Turkey I’ve done the hard work so you don’t have to – here’s where to find local food and dishes throughout the country so if you’re visiting Istanbul, Ankara, Cappadocia or the coast – or completing a road trip around the county you don’t have to miss out! Here’s the round up of my research ..read more

Gluten Free in Iceland and driving the Ring Road – The Sightseeing Coeliac

Last updated January 2023 Visiting Iceland in June 2021 as our first international trip after over a year of covid and lockdowns felt amazing! A trip that we were undecided about right up until the last minute, but one that we were so glad we took. Visiting the spectacular scenery of Iceland without the crowds was incredible. We had been to Iceland before in 2013, a winter trip that included a few days in Reykjavik with friends seeing the sights, doing the Golden Circle Tour and going snowmobiling on a glacier but sadly no viewing of the Northern Lights. We also drove the South Coast to Jokul ..read more

Gluten Free in Athens, Greece 2023 – The Sightseeing Coeliac

Last updated January 2023 We booked a trip to Athens for a long weekend for some sightseeing out of season to avoid the summer Acropolis crowds, and hopefully some blue skies and good food. As I began researching gluten free in Athens I found very little information available online, and some that I did seemed to give a mixed response. One that can be typical for countries with fairly naturally gluten free cuisine – some say it’s easy because of this, and others find it hard as that can lead to lack of knowledge and dedicated gluten free restaurants. This is how I got on in Athens after four n ..read more

Gluten Free in the Lake District – The Sightseeing Coeliac

The Lake District is a National Park in North West England, and it is a stunning part of the country. It is an area that I visit regularly with my aunt, uncle and cousins living there and it’s our number one location for a long weekend. With international travel restrictions over the last two years, we have visited several times so it felt like the right time to write this guide! The Lake District is vast so this guide may not give locals many new ideas for gluten free dining but if you’re on holiday in the Lakes it should hopefully have you covered. We aren’t daily hikers but do some, and oft ..read more

Gluten Free Must Eats in New York: Where to Find Local Cuisine – The Sightseeing Coeliac

I recently wrote a blog post on where to find local cuisine in Portugal, and I love the concept! It’s so nice to be able to join in eating the local cuisine and trying new things with everyone else whilst travelling. I have also recently been giving some New York recommendations to people with trips planned, so why not start with New York for my next local cuisine guide? Ok, so some of my foods may be controversial as they may not really be from New York but visitors in the U.K. may want to know about them – so apologies to any New Yorkers in advance with this post! I would recommend a DIY foo ..read more
