Barely 24 hours after slashing the rate, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Saturday morning raised the exchange rate for computing Customs duties at the nation’s seaports by 1.4 per cent. Customs duties rate is now benchmarked against the exchange rate of the Naira to the dollar and therefore would be subject to constant changes unless the federal government decides to peg it. The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd. has assured the public that there is no imminent increase in the cost of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol.
