HM Customs have advised that this week’s civil service strike is likely to impact movements through UK airports, seaports and ro-ro ports. Around 100,000 civil service members are expected to join the strike on Wednesday 1 February, and while Customs employees are not expected to be involved, the dispute includes Home Office employees – notably Border Force. The US are implementing an import ban from the Xinjiang Uyghur region of China in June, which could impact exports from the UK to the United States. The Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act was passed in December but becomes effective from 21st June 2022. It states that any goods mined, produced, manufactured, wholly or in part, in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) will not be allowed into the United States.
