This months mix features recent releases on the Indonesian Chaotic Pop Records and two tracks from a new label from that country, Fast Records. There are two tracks from Skep Wax Records and a few noisy nuggets from the likes of Cosmit, Shit Present and more. Throw in some indie/jangle pop and this mix sums up my April indiepop listening to a tee. As ever, enjoy!

The Wendy Darlings – Don’t Flirt
Harper – Home Again
Roller Derby – Dreams
Neutrals – Wish You Were Here

Another sampler I have been listening to is the sampler from the Bratislava based Start-track.com. This is a label that specialises in cassette releases, being founded by the same person who was behind the sadly now dead Z-Tapes, Filip Zemčík. There is also a blog of the same name, and the label has released four excellent compilations covering artists featured on that site.
Some of the names on their roster should be familiar to you such as Swiss Portrait, Beach Vacation and FUVK. Incidentally, the latter has just released a vital and lengthy retrospective on the label titled 2016-2023. New ..read more

As we hurtle towards the end of another year, here are some releases gathered from the last four weeks or so. We have three from Chaotic Pop Records. This Indonesian label has fast come my favourite of this year and if they keep it up, next year too! We have lead tracks from the forthcoming Ducks Ltd. and The BV’s albums which hint at special things to come.
93MillionMilesFromTheSun have returned with a new EP and are one of the many shoegazing highlights in the mix. And indiepop? That’s covered by the likes of mmmarkos!, The Yellow Melodies, Pálida Tez, April June and a few more besides. As ..read more

Another three releases I have been listening to this past week or so, summed up by others on the net. Please add these sites to your reading lists, RSS feeds, sidebars, bookmarks etc. Or at least give them a visit!
Lightheaded – Good Good Great!
“Fully realized and full of shiny tonal surfaces, this stuff goes down like honey. Lightheaded do so much here with just a few elements. And yet, the tunes on Good Good Great are distinct, with each a little pop gem. Vocally, this aligns with the recent Jeanines records on this imprint, and musically with the Papercuts and Peel Dream Magazine ones. Bu ..read more

So as the title says on the tin, two tracks from Clare, South Australia. As it’s the hometown of Caleb Carr (English Summers/The Guild/Arts and Letters) I wonder if he is involved in any way, shape or form? I am aware that’s a bit like me asking someone from Stockholm if they know Sven because he is from Sweden but given Wikipedia states the population of Clare is around the 3.2k mark it could be so eh?
Why do I ask? Well, both the acts here show remarkable similarities, especially with English Summer. It could be a coincidence, or if I am wrong (which is more than likely!) it could be that C ..read more

Like a speeding driver on a motorway, The Main Thing hurtles along at full throttle. The jangling guitars are frantic, whilst the vocals and drumming keep space. It has an air of This Poison! about it. The Main Thing, which features Julia Steiner (Ratboys), Jason Balla (Dehd) and Margaret McCarthy (Moontype), is out now via Carpark Records.

So a combination of COVID (yet again!) followed by a busy time at work has seen an enforced absence from these pages. So without much ado, let’s get stuck into the releases I need to catch up with.
Here is the Playlist:
or listen on YouTube
Track list:
Spunsugar – San Jose
There is a little bit of Curve on San Jose, which is the latest single to be taken from the forthcoming album A Hole Forever. Shoegaze and electronica combine to great effect, and the joint vocals work pretty well too. Strangely it’s backed with two other tracks from the LP being It Never Gave Me Everything and Flaws.
