Some music is so good that the world just isn’t ready for it. That may have been the case with Pärson Sound, a pioneering Swedish experimental rock band formed in the late 1960s. They were among the earliest proponents of the psychedelic rock and experimental music scene in Sweden. Italian art-rock collective Oslo Tapes released a terrific album last year called Staring At The Sun Before Goin’ Blind. It was so good that I included it on The Third Eye’s Best Psychedelic Albums of 2023. Empty House has returned with a new record of psychedelic wizardry called Bluestone, released on March 29th. The solo project of Blackpool-based musician Fred Laird sounds stranger than ever, with the ambient sounds on Bluestone creating an instrumental tapestry that sears deep into the night and pulsates with dark energy. Laird wrote and recorded Bluestone after a three-day trip around the Pembroke-shire coastline in November 2023. The Austrian experimental musician Black (W)hole has returned with a new album called Kaleidoscopic Rhapsody, due May 30th. You won’t find a lot of information about the Black (W)hole online, and I get the feeling they may like it that way. The sense of mystery about the project adds to the appeal. Kaleidoscopic Rhapsody consists of 12 tracks that explore the outer fringes of drone, folk, noise, psychedelic, and space rock. The mysterious Barcelona-based psych-rockers Magick Brother & Mystic Sister have returned with a new single, “The Hierophant,” off their upcoming double concept albums, Tarot Pt.1 and Tarot Pt. 2. A new psych-space-kraut band from Paris is blasting off into the underground rock scene called Empty Full Space (EFS), and they’ve released two new singles from their upcoming debut album, From the Limbo.
