The Georgina Campbell awards are prestigious, independent and the country’s longest running food and hospitality awards. We were proud to win the National Natural Food title this year – it’s a fabulous tribute to the quality of our organic produce. Claudia went along to the awards ceremony at the new Bord Bia Global Hub in Dublin to accept the award from Georgina on our behalf. Georgina wrote a lovely citation to go along with the award and this is what it said: “Carina and Alex Conyngham’s organic farm and ecotourism hub is beautifully situated just across the River Boyne from Slane Castle an ..read more

It was a busy autumn for Carina Conyngham who was in demand at various events around the county taking time out of her busy schedule to talk about Rock Farm, and the organic farming style we practice. Rock Farm is a 90 acre organic farm certified under the Organic Trust which uses permaculture principles. In October Carina took part in National Women’s Enterprise Day at The Monasterboice Inn, Drogheda.  Jointly hosted by Meath and Louth Local Enterprise Offices, this year’s theme was ‘Empowering Business Together’ which had real relevance for Rock Farm. Rock Farm Slane Glamping

Who wouldn’t want to sleep in a cosy swallow’s nest? Ours isn’t precariously balanced in a treetop though, it’s an eco-friendly, sustainable strawbale lodge with its feet firmly on the ground. It’s also a snug, warm hideaway which everyone loves. Swallow’s Nest is a truly unique two-person glamping option with a fascinating history. It was the first strawbale building we built here at Rock Farm and it’s made from our own barley straw grown on the farm and local clay. It is plastered with lime and finished in natural clay paints. The green roof is a living blanket of succulent sedum plants. Wal ..read more

From Bon Jovi to Harry Styles – 10 years of Rock Farm Slane
Rock Farm Slane Glamping

Where does time go? Ten years ago, on 15th June 2013 we opened our glamping doors just in time for the Bon Jovi concert at Slane Castle across the River Boyne. A decade on, superstar Harry Styles will take to the same stage, marking the date almost to the day. Looking back, we realise we were true pioneers in the area of glamping and ecotourism; in 2013 just one other glamping site existed – Tea Pot Lane in Leitrim. “I remember it all so clearly, I can’t believe how quickly the years have passed,” says Carina Conyngham, thinking back to when she established the ecotourism destination with her ..read more

Stay in a Bell Tent at Rock Farm Slane
Rock Farm Slane Glamping

Ever spent a night in a Bell Tent? Have you any idea what a Bell Tent actually is? You’d be surprised how many people have no idea. A Bell Tent is a traditional style pitched canvas tent, usually cream in colour. Ours are on raised platforms and sleep between four and six people comfortably. Our Bell Tents might look like standard tents from the outside – but inside it’s quite a different story. They are carpeted and comfortably furnished with proper mattresses to sleep on and high-quality linen and towels. It’s a long way from the basic camping of yesteryear. Staying in a Bell Tent is an easy ..read more

Stay in a Yurt at Rock Farm Slane
Rock Farm Slane Glamping

Have you ever stayed in a Yurt? You might be pleasantly surprised at just how comfortable the experience is. Their history goes back to the dawn of time; they’ve been used in central Asia for close on three thousand years. Ours look similar from the outside but inside it’s a different story. Not many nomadic Mongolian farmers would recognise the luxury interiors here at Rock Farm. Our yurts sleep either four or six people in exceptionally comfortable beds with crisp white linen and soft downy duvets. We’ve named them after trees which grow here on the farm: Oak, Hazel, Yew, Holly and Ash. Oak ..read more
