The Mesa College men’s volleyball team defeated Golden West in four sets to advance to the state championship. The Mesa Olympians will play the two-time defending champions, Orange Coast College, on Saturday April 27. San Diego Mesa is streaking to the playoffs, winning 5 straight, including a playoff win versus Irvine Valley in straight sets, 25-23, 25-21, 25-18, to send them to their first semi-finals matchup versus Golden West. San Diego Mesa College’s women’s beach volleyball team demonstrated amazing teamwork in a thrilling set of matches on April 12, emerging undefeated against San Diego City College and losing only one set to Miramar College. The team showcased remarkable effort in the sand, maintaining their outstanding record of 16 wins and 3 losses for the season. Mesa College announced the opening of the Family Resource Center, a valuable addition aimed at supporting both students and parents. The center held its soft opening during the first week of April. Situated in the Library Resource Center (LRC 113) on the first floor, the Family Resource Center provides a designated area where parents can study without having to be apart from their children. A lecture hosted by two student moderators, Paulina Safa and Ruby Arellano, led four successful and highly educated women to give advice and share their education journeys to motivate students on April 3. The panel consisted of Kristin Allred, Gaby Ruz, Jessica Rocha, and Dr. Ashanti Hands. All four speakers have been successful through their own education paths and careers. The Mesa Badminton team is peaking at the right time. They have showed incredible resilience to bounce back and win four straight games after a tough loss against Pasadena City on March 14. Overall, Mesa is currently 9-1, losing only one conference game thus far in the season, on track for second place in the South Coast Conference.  The biggest of those wins came versus the two-time defending champions, De Anza, who Mesa snuck past 11-10 on April 1.   Diego Mesa College partnered with the San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD)’s Indian Education Program to commemorate its 60th anniversary by hosting a powwow that embraced Native American culture on March 16. Students and families from all of SDUSD’s campuses were invited to join the powwow. The event was filled with traditions such as bird singing and traditional dancing, and also featured a wide variety of vendors selling clothes, art, and food. In a display of offensive prowess, the Mesa softball team (12-7), beat Grossmont (2-15), 9-0 at home to level up in conference play (3-1). Charlotte Gonzalez had three hits and Chloe Wilson went 3-3, with three RBIs. The team ended up scoring nine runs on 12 hits collectively.
