Worcestershire Early Music

What a dazzling concert we were treated to earlier this month from Nathaniel Mander and Magda Loth Hill; they made a great duo, positively fizzing with expertise. I hope we will see their return before too long! As you know this was the last concert of the current season, so now I am able to whet your appetite for next season.  Coming up on Sunday October 6th, we welcome Spinacino, (named after an Italian Lutenist and composer born in 1485); they are a Scottish based consort dedicated to music of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Our last concert given by Amaryillis, proved to be everything we anticipated and a bit more, with an encouraging number in the audience too. So here’s to our next event. He is now regarded as one of the leading players of his generation being particularly known for his performances of 18th Century French Masters. He performs regularly in France after being invited to perform with the celebrated Musiciens du Louvre by Marc Minkowski. M ..read more

A Happy New Year from all of us at WEM. At our AGM on Saturday 6th January we said thank you and farewell to trustees Simon and Matthew, and welcomed new trustees Carole and Rob. We looked back over the past year through the comprehensive accounts prepared by Ross our treasurer, and through the chair’s report; a year when increased funding was a big part of the story, and audience numbers remain stubbornly steady. The committee who work hard promoting our concerts, all agreed to be  re-elected en bloc, so with the AGM done, we are all set to beg ..read more

Our thanks to the Musical and Amicables and to Ensemble Hesperi for two cracking concerts so far this season. The performance of music from King Charles 11 private collection, as performed by the Musical and Amicables , brought us grounds and Divisions by Purcell, Mr Banister’s Division, Divisions on “I am the Duke of Norfolk” and a brilliant performance of Matteis Ground on La Folia. Ensemble Hesperi entertained us with music having a horticultural theme, with trio sonatas by Telemann and Handel (extracts of whose letters were read to us illustrating their interests in plant collecting) and A ..read more
