The constant need of having to advocate for yourself

As a slightly impatient person (who works on being a bit more patient), I decided to go to see my GP only after six months of trying for a baby. I really didn’t understand why I should wait for a year before starting to dig deeper (the need to advocate for yourself already from the very beginning, right?). We wanted to have some basic blood tests done and some vitamins’ levels checked. By then I already knew I ovulated regularly thanks to the Fertility Awareness Method (basal body temperature and cervical mucus tracking), my cycles were of good length and regular. So I was starting to worry w ..read more

Was my progesterone high enough to get pregnant?

Does regular cycle mean hormonal balance? After being on the fertility journey for about a year, we were sent to the fertility clinic for more testing. I told the gynaecologist my cycle was 28-day long (textbook perfect, right?) and that I ovulated regularly as well, which I confirmed every month with the Fertility Awareness Method. He did an ultrasound which confirmed I ovulated that month (after ovulation, the burst follicle turns into corpus luteum which is visible on the ultrasound). He then said my cycle was perfectly healthy so he wouldn’t do any hormonal testing. When I protested that ..read more

Is fertility yoga for everyone?

Is fertility yoga for everyone? Short answer? Yes. Long answer? Hell yes! Yoga, meditation, breathing techniques, visualizations, affirmations, maybe it all sounds pretty woo-woo to you, but actually, there is science behind. Let’s have a closer look at how and why fertility yoga works. One big part of what makes fertility yoga special is the fact you notice your cycle, you are aware of which phase of the cycle you are in and then you exercise accordingly. Menstruation When your period arrives, you want to take some time to rest or at least take it easy. Your uterus is working hard to shed th ..read more

Is IVF right for me?

When we were almost a year into our fertility journey, I shared our struggles with my mum. Until this point, the question “Is IVF right for me?” didn’t really cross my mind. “With IVF it’s fast.” “Don’t worry, it’ll happen soon and if not, you’ll just do IVF.“ “First we want to dig deeper and look for answers plus I don’t feel like I want to go through IVF.“ “What, why not, you’d be wasting your time, with IVF it’s fast.“ “Mum, it’s not that simple, IVF doesn’t always work and it’s mentally and physically challenging.“ What I’m trying to say with this, many think it’s so simple. They’ll just ..read more

“Everything looks fine.” – The frustrating diagnosis of unexplained infertility

“Everything looks fine.” – that’s definitely something you don’t want to hear from a specialist at the fertility clinic after a year of trying for a baby without any success. All you want to know is what the hell is wrong. Well, that’s exactly what we got – the frustrating diagnosis of unexplained infertility. However, is it really a diagnosis? Our experience with the fertility clinic To me it sounds more like the doctor is saying “sorry, we don’t really know what’s wrong here”. The only thing they did for me was to check on the ultrasound whether I ovulated. Well, thanks a lot, I already kne ..read more

One of the main aspects of fertility yoga is practicing in sync with your menstrual cycle (these Colouring Fertility Affirmation Cards can help you stay in touch with your cycle on your fertility journey), so your practice will look differently while you are on your period, before and during ovulation and then in the luteal phase after ovulation. Therefore, it is not about doing one or two specific poses and boom, you’ll get pregnant. It is more about tuning in and getting to know your body, however, some of the poses we work with in fertility yoga are especially beneficial. Today I am sharin ..read more

Is Implantation Dip a Myth?
Balanced and Fertile Blog

Can the temperature tell you when implantation happens or is implantation dip a myth? I often see women trying to read something out of their charts and their basal body temperature (BBT) to find out whether the embryo could have implanted or not. Let me spill the beans right in the beginning. Implantation dip is a myth. While the Fertility Awareness Method (FAM) is amazing, it cannot tell you when implantation happens. Actually, nothing can. There is a myth about the implantation dip. It is said that when we see a drop in temperature some days after ovulation it means the embryo is implanti ..read more

My journey with elevated NK cells and how I got pregnant

After two years of trying for a baby, we decided to dig deeper on our own and to travel to Prague to the Czech Republic to a clinic that specializes in immunology testing. And that’s how my journey with elevated NK cells started. How did we get here? But let’s go back a little bit. By this time I had my Fallopian tubes checked and they were all clear. At my GP I requested hormonal testing, a test for chlamydia and to check some vitamin levels including vitamin D. My husband had a sperm analysis and the results seemed good as well. Hmmm, I would like to see them a bit better, but I can write ..read more

Should your partner know when you ovulate or rather not? Maybe you are thinking right now: „I’m doing all the hard work, taking plenty of supplements, trying to eat well, exercise and now I should also be hiding my ovulation?“. It’s hard for your partner, too Even though your partner might not show much that the fertility journey takes a toll on him, after all men are taught not to show many emotions, deep down there is pressure on him, too. After two years of our own fertility journey, I realized it’s been a while since the last time me and my husband had sex. I’ve been wondering for a few d ..read more
