Burger with a view at Salon du Nord
Eating Out In Stavanger

Salon du Nord is located in Hotel Victoria in downtown Stavanger and got a makeover a couple of years back that made it into a stylish cocktail and lunch place. We stopped by on a Saturday in June and the Stavanger weather was not cooperating (as usual) but we decided to sit outside anyway as it was actually warm. The outdoor patio is perfect for looking at life passing by at the harbor of Stavanger (or Skagenkaien as we call it). The menu is not extensive, but you can get classic lunch dishes such as Croque Monsieur, burger, Caesars salad, moules frites etc. We decided to go for a burger this ..read more

Great teamwork from Restaurant SÖL & Spontan Vinbar
Eating Out In Stavanger

We went to Restaurant SÖL on a Sunday night as there was a special guest appearance by Spontan Vinbar from Trondheim. We have not been to Spontan Vinbar but we have heard good things about it, and we know from several previous visits that Restaurant SÖL is good so this should be a great combination. When we got there, we were thrilled to see that there was quite a lot of guests from the restaurant scene in Stavanger – there were chefs/sommeliers from places like Bravo, Idsøe Grill & Berkel, Renaa Matbaren etc. We got off with a couple of beautiful starters that included raw shrimp in cro ..read more

Mixed feelings about Tex-Mex at Harry Pepper
Eating Out In Stavanger

We stopped by Harry Pepper on a sunny Friday evening in June 2024. We made a booking request via the web page that was accepted, but there was some confusion when we arrived as it didn’t seem like they had our booking details. For some reason, Harry Pepper does not have a proper online booking but at least we got a table this evening. The place is still a lively restaurant and bar and there are seats spread on several floors and outside in the summer season (called Harry Pepper bar). The restaurant has existed for quite some time (since mid 1980's) and has been in different location but now ..read more

Lively weeknight at CinCin
Eating Out In Stavanger

I finally got to re-visit CinCin – this time with a friend on a weekday. We have stopped by recently but only for drinks as they do have a great lounge with good cocktails/wine. We had an early reservation (6.30 PM), and the place was not full when we came but was packed by the time we left. As always, the set menu started with a Thai inspired curry soup that has been on the menu for some years – I do like my Thai food, so I appreciate the slight chili kick in the soup. CinCin has French/Italian chefs but seems to have a fascination of the Asian cuisine as we continued with some Asian “tapas ..read more

New juice/smoothie/salad cafe : Will I Juice
Eating Out In Stavanger

I usually feel well-informed about what's happening in Stavanger, but sometimes I get surprised. Recently, Nikki discovered a new spot in the heart of the city while she was browsing on IG – the place is called Will I Juice . Will I Juice, seems to originate from Kristiansand and has now set up shop in Galleri 4 (in Breigata), surrounded by stores like Høyer and Outland. The place features a variety of seating options, including round tables, small tables for two, and sofas, with a view of Breigata outside. The place might not be that cozy as it is in a open space in the middle of this small m ..read more

Al fresco dining at Brøl
Eating Out In Stavanger

We visited Brøl on a beautiful sunny day in May! This bistro, focusing on its bar and sourdough offerings, is conveniently located across the road from Ostehuset Øst in Storhaug. Brøl has taken over the space previously occupied by Basil & Co and Garcia, and they offer seating both indoors and outdoors. On this gorgeous day, we snagged a sunny outdoor table—an ideal spot for the afternoon, so don't forget your sunglasses and sunscreen if you plan to sit outside! The menu features items like bangers & mash, a chicken dish, a Reuben sandwich, and a variety of sourdough pizzas. While I ..read more

Pizza at Sirkus Renaa

As they say “Pizza is always the answer. Who cares what the question is?” There are a few places in Stavanger to get a decent pizza and Sirkus Renaa at Sølvberget is one of them. Just good, Italian style pizza with sourdough base and good topping. I had the Truffle Salametto with mozzarella from Osteverkstedet , truffle salumi, truffle pecorino and caramelized leek! Make sure to check out the weekly pizza option! Pizzas cost between 200 and 265 kroner ..read more

Enjoying Hyderabadi Chicken Biriyani at Spisoh
Eating Out In Stavanger

We’ve become regulars at Spisoh, and it’s quickly risen to the top of our go-to list! On our latest visit, we popped in during a quiet weekday to indulge in some “midweek madness” dining. With only a few other guests around, we were able to place our orders swiftly, and within 15-20 minutes, our meals were ready. Initially, my Hyderabadi Chicken Biryani appeared modest in size, but it was deceptively filling! This aromatic rice dish was a delight, boasting a perfect balance of lightness and fluffiness, richly seasoned with an assortment of spices, and studded with succulent chicken pieces. I w ..read more

Hekkan burger and The Hungries graciously extended an invitation to us for a sneak peek at Hekkan’s fresh venture, *ouch* burger! As a self-proclaimed Hekkan burger enthusiast, their offerings have never failed to impress me: their coal-grilled burgers are a testament to flavor excellence. The secret lies in the premium meat sourced from Prima Jæren, freshly ground and bound with just a pinch of salt. Enter Ouch burger: a reimagined take on the smash burger. Staying true to their roots, they employ the same high-grade meat, seasoned on-the-spot as it sizzles away. The Stavanger foodie communi ..read more

Enjoying rustic, homemade food at Casa Gio
Eating Out In Stavanger

We went to Casa Gio in March 2024 to celebrate an anniversary and nothing much has changed since our last visit. There is still just a short menu on a blackboard as you enter and there are only like 4 main dishes. On this evening, it did not seem like the blackboard was updated but we got information about the menu from our waiter. The restaurant is cozy with dim lighting, brick walls and dark furniture and there is an intimate atmosphere with a view to the kitchen. It didn’t take that long before we got our starters – octopus salad and tagliere misto. The cold octopus salad had delicious pie ..read more
