Since their introduction in 2021, sprint races have divided Formula 1 fans. The original concept was that it adds more racing in a weekend. However, most drivers don’t enjoy them, and the races are often uneventful because there is little at stake, the drivers don’t want to jeopardise their car before qualifying and the main race, and as such most of them just treat it as a practise session. Recently, Formula 1 announced that from 2025, the point awarded for fastest lap in each race will be abolished.
