No one likes to talk about it but a common problem for swimmers is yellowing of their teeth. If you follow a few simple preventative tips, you can reduce the yellowing and keep those teeth sparkling white. Repetitive exposure to pool chemicals, particularly chlorine and bromine, disrupts the natural pH of the swimmer’s saliva. This in turn can cause one of two problems, or both. The change in pH makes the teeth’ enamel softer. Mineral balance in the mouth changes and yellow or even brown stains start to appear on the teeth surfaces. The other problem is known as swimmer’s calculus. This build ..read more

What does your swimmer wear on their feet in the winter?

After browsing the internet, asking seasoned parents, and looking at social media forums, it seems the resounding answer to this question is a Classic Lined Croc. Many of the swimmers love that they are easy to take on and off and they have some warmth to them. They dry fairly quickly and are light. A favorite among the girls. My son, on the other hand, prefers to wear some sort of rubber slide with no padding. Several of the ones on the market have a fabric cushion under the strap. I would avoid this if possible. Under Armour and Nike make a few versions that we have used in the past. He lik ..read more

Why Are Some Pools Slow?

11M ago
To a non-swimmer parent, the idea that some pools are faster or slower than others seems odd. If your new swimmer is telling you that the pool is slow, there may be more than a few reasons why. Older pools may not have updated gutter systems. Newer systems allow water along the pool edges to flow over a gutter. This keeps waves from rebounding into the swimmers and slowing them down.
