Home Estimated reading time: 3 minutes I know you’re all dying for an update on my car situation. Well, I gotta say, my insurance company is really coming through for me. To start, they’ve made things pretty easy on me, which is a HUGE help since—even at its easiest—this whole process blows. Car accident ruins the day
Besides the Point

Home Estimated reading time: 2 minutes I drove back home Sunday morning for my best friend’s gender reveal party. Pretty good start to the day, right? Well, it ended with my car being totaled. Technically—in the eyes of the law that is—I’m at fault. I was turning left on a yellow light and the car approaching me started to slow down. Therefore, I assumed he was going to stop at the light. And I was right. However, a car behind them whipped around into the other lane and then smashed into me. Luckily, I wasn’t going very fast, but it didn’t really matter. The car is no more. Enjoy my totaled ca ..read more

Boredom eating can be beaten
Besides the Point

Home Estimated reading time: 3 minutes I am a frequent victim of boredom eating, and I have a feeling I can’t be the only one. So, I decided to do a bit of research and share what I found; with luck, it may help you too. Okay, down to business. What fuels emotional eating? It sounds self-explanatory, but it’s really a bit more complex than that. We often approach eating as more than just fueling our body, it’s a form of therapy. We eat when we’re stressed and upset and—typically—when we’re happy and celebrating. And—if you’re at all like me—you’ll catch yourself eating of sheer boredom (and e ..read more

Money may have you fooled
Besides the Point

Home Estimated reading time: 2 minutes Have you ever stopped to think about how money isn’t really…..well, real? That may sound like a wild, insane thought. But let’s provide some context. For many years, the dollar (and the currencies of many other nations) were back by a gold standard. In essence, that meant that the value of the currency could be exchanged for a particular amount of gold. That is to say, the money in your wallet had a tangible and legitimate cause of value. Then, in 1971, President Nixon severed the link between the US dollar and gold. Meaning for the last half centur ..read more

Apple unveils new $3,500 headset
Besides the Point

In case you haven’t heard, Apple released the first look at it’s Vision Pro headset today, coming soon to a store near you for the *cough* affordable price of $3,500. Yes, you read that correctly — THREE THOUSAND and five hundred dollars. This shit is getting out of hand. We—as a society—should already have a bone to pic with Apple for designing a wireless mouse that can’t be used while it’s charging. But now, they’re offering this headset for thousands more than its competitors. And why??? You look bored: Grocery-store groaner Self-tanner tryout Fling or phony? Grocery store groaner
Besides the Point

For as long as I’ve been going to grocery stores, I’ve NEVER understood when people bring their entire family. Like, I understand the need for food, clothes, etc. Those are needs that we all have to meet. What I’ve never understood is why people opt to bring their entire family units to the grocery store?? Self-tanner tryout
Besides the Point
by Tanner

Yes, my name’s Tanner, but I can assure you, I am by no means tan. If you threw me a black cloak and some fangs, I could roll with Dracula’s crew. The reason it matters is because my apartment complex has two pools. And if I want to enjoy said pools, I can’t be rockin this alabaster skin tone. Fingers crossed they let me into their family. So—for the second time ever—I’m trying self-tanner. The first time ended up….well, not good. My skin looked oompa loompa-like. This time, I got some type of foaming lotion. AND, I actually did a little bit of research on the best practices of how to apply it ..read more

‘A Man Called Otto:’ It’s worth a watch
Besides the Point
by Tanner

First off, let me add this disclaimer that I’ll watch just about anything that has Tom Hanks in it. The man is a national treasure and has earned every ounce of his reputation. Okay, moving on to the movie. In today’s world of rampant “Karens” and other crotchety older folk, this movie can’t help but garner a laugh as you see Otto (Tom Hanks)—a widowed, retired white man—yell at everyone about everything. As the movie develops, you shift between present day and flashbacks as you learn how Otto has developed into the character you see on screen. Otto’s character continues to develop as he stru ..read more

Hot take on handicap parking
Besides the Point
by Tanner

No, I’m not advocating that we get rid of handicap parking. Before you get your panties in a bunch, take a second and recognize that the headline is (mostly) for clickbait. That said, strap in cause you might not like what follows lol. Parking paralysis Call me crazy, but in my 24 years of life, I’ve noticed that those with a handicap permit on their cars are some of the worst parkers. And what’s more, it seems as though the worst parking jobs are WHEN they park in the designated handicap spot. And ya know what? It bugs the shit outta me. That probably makes me an asshole, but at least I’m no ..read more
