First of all, I want to start by saying that this summer camp was one of the best experiences of my life and I will never forget any of the people and the moments. The schedule was very organised and planned out but it felt natural having multiple training sessions a day on top off that training with your team which makes it all better Experienced guests and coaches came to teach us new techniques which I gained a lot of knowledge from which you cannot gain without an experience like this Everything from the hotel to the food was amazing and spot on especially the dinner at the end of the day ..read more

Going to Sandanski for the second time and the feeling beforehand first and second time was completely different. The first year I went to the unknown which was a little worrying, not knowing what’s waiting for me. The second time, I could not wait to return and spend the quality time with training friends and coaches, not to think about anything else except training as the rest is completely taken care off! Food and accommodation are second to none compared to other training summer camps. Organic vegetables and fruits, well cooked meals, I could even have pancakes with honeycomb for breakfast ..read more

A few years ago, there was a photo that was all over the papers and social media. It was of two young women on a London bus, travelling home at the end of the night. They were a couple. Their faces were covered in blood. They had been beaten by a group of young men. Like most people I was appalled. But there was something else about how I related to that photograph. I have been afraid- my whole life- of what I would do in the same circumstances. As women, we are told that we can reduce the chances of male violence if we don’t dress a certain way, or if don’t drink too much, or if we don’t walk ..read more

To write a full review for this trip would take me days but I’m going to try to condense it into a few short paragraphs. The entire trip was absolutely nothing I expected and everything I could have hoped for. I have no experience travelling in Eastern Europe so, as a naive traveller, I decided to add a day in Sofia with my fellow Kyokushin sister, Andry, before making the trip to Sandanski. We laughed and ate Bulgarian food, drinking Bulgarian wine, surrounded by immense mountains that you can see all around you when you stand on the streets of Sophia. There is an air of calm about the city ..read more

Let me try to recap and capture my experience in the kyokushin summer camp organised by my sensei Simeon in Bulgaria last July. I have been training kyokushin for the past 20 years and I can honestly say this has been the most unique and enriching experience I have ever experienced in my kyokushin life. I’m not going to delve into my personal life but I was in a pretty tough place mentally and this camp helped me so much physically and mentally. Needless to say, the 3 trainings a day were amazing and the quality of the instructors was very impressive but more than the trainings by themselves i ..read more
