Dorothy Donegan (April 6, 1922 – May 19, 1998) was an American classically trained jazz pianist primarily known for performing in the stride piano and boogie-woogie style. She also played bop, swing jazz, and classical music. Obituaries for her argued that her flamboyant personality, tendency to mix unrelated genres in the same concert, and willingness to do lounge music may have caused her to be undervalued in jazz circles. Wayne Shorter (born August 25, 1933) is an American jazz saxophonist and composer. He became known as member and composer of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers and later went on to join Miles Davis in his Second Great Quintet in the 1960’s. Later he founded Weather Report. He won 10 Grammy awards and recorded more than 20 albums.
