Thank you. Thank you for reading, responding, interacting with me on SDG’s social media or in person over the last 4.5 years here at Sabattus Disc Golf. I’ve really enjoyed working with, learning from, and engaging in the fun conversations we’ve had. This is my final blog for Sabattus Disc Golf. I’m leaving SDG to take a position in the Mechanic Falls Police department. My last day will be Wednesday September 13th. Come out that night for a special round of dubs! I took the Sabattus Pro Shop attendant job in April of 2019 with the intention of getting free rounds at my favorite course and a di ..read more

5 Things No One Tells You When You Start Disc Golfing
Sabattus Disc Golf

From my first casual round in 2002, to playing weekly in 2010, to today working in a disc golf pro shop for 4.5 years, I’ve seen lots of disc golf. And I’d like to help newcomers to the sport. I think that attitude is embraced by so many folks who chuck plastic. This week in the blog, let’s take a look at some of the things that no one tells you outright before you start disc golfing. 1. “It’s so cheap to get into.” Yes, but it can add up quickly. There’s a lot of discs out there you want to try, and accessories, and then you might want backups of your favorite discs, a practice basket, ran ..read more

Try My 100-200-300-400 Method in Disc Golf

There’s so much advice out there for disc golf beginners. So here’s yet another blog full of advice for folks who are struggling with when they should throw each disc. One question newer players often ask me is when they should throw each disc. “Is this too far for a putter?” “Do I take out my driver here?” “What is a fairway driver even for?” They’re all good questions so I’d like to answer. I’ve heard a lot about the “Rule of 35” and I think it’s a fairly decent guideline. But I feel like people struggle to divide the distance to the pin by 35 and pick a disc based on it. For example if ..read more

How To Stop Taking Big Numbers On Hole 7 Hawk
Sabattus Disc Golf
by Andrew Streeter

As a UDisc Ambassador for Sabattus Disc Golf’s courses I get to see lots of stats about our courses. Stats like how many people played, how many finished their rounds, and importantly what the average score on each hole was for the past 30 days. Hole 7 on the Hawk averages a 4.12 overall score. It’s regularly in the top 3 hardest holes on the Hawk each month. I think that’s because it’s virtually impossible to eagle, and it’s not a hole shape I’ve seen frequently in my years playing disc golf. Along with Hole 9 (where you should just bite less off the tee), and Hole 1 (where people are just n ..read more

How To Explain the James Conrad Holy Shot to Non Disc Golfers
Sabattus Disc Golf
by Andrew Streeter

Recently I got the chance to introduce and play disc golf with my former college advisor. She’s incredibly well versed in all sports, because she’s a sports management professor and a great passionate fan. Even if she does like ‘the’ Ohio State… I’ve known her for about 10 years and every single paper for class I could tailor to writing about disc golf, I did. We talked about the growth of disc golf throughout the pandemic, and if there were any big moments that I could point to that contributed to the sports growth. Naturally I brought up the “Holy Shot.” I found myself trying to articula ..read more

Streeter's 2023 Disc Golf World Championship Picks

It’s still 40 days away but it’s in the back of everyone’s minds. With the Pro Tour in full swing in Europe, the World Championships is coming. A 1x next to your signature would change the trajectory of your career forever.  A 2x solidifies you as one of the most dominant players of your era.  And 3x,4x,5x? That would put you into a top 4 conversation that folks all around the world who play disc golf will have for eternity. I don’t know how many times a season I hear a conversation about who is the GOAT? I’m so pumped the World Championships are at Smugglers Notch. If I could pick ..read more

3 Exercises to Stop Rolling Your Wrist on Forehand
Sabattus Disc Golf

Don't forget if you do buy something from our store online to use code "Streeter" at checkout for 10% off your order, now through August 5th! For some folks the forehand is a natural shot. Those folks can throw distance drivers, flippy mids, even stable putters on every line imaginable and get perfect shot shapes. For the rest of us, it takes lots of work to develop a serviceable forehand shot. It can take a long time to develop, but I promise it’s worth putting the effort in. I know that many people try throwing forehand and end up with one of two problems. These problems are no fun, don’t g ..read more

Exploring Innova Overmolds

Want 10% off one order now through August 5th 2023? Use code “Streeter” at checkout and get 10% off your order, and get Streeter (me, the blog guy) better odds for a paid day off. This week I want to talk about some molds from Innova that may surprise you.  MVP and Axiom rightly get the credit for having the first overmold discs and I believe the most overmold discs as well. Unless there’s some company I’m not familiar with. MVP first got the Ion approved in 2009 so they’ve been making discs with that weighted outer rim for 14 years. And I think they’ve changed the sport with it. They’re ..read more

Prepare For Rainy Day Disc Golf Success
Sabattus Disc Golf

It’s a nice rainy Saturday as I sit down to start this blog. The courses aren’t too busy, and the folks who are playing all have day passes to Sabattus. What do they know that fair-weather disc golfers don’t? It’s been a wet spring. And the start of the summer has brought more of that liquid sunshine. This week in the blog I want to talk about how to get out there and enjoy a round in the rain. I’m reminded of the Norwegian saying “There is no bad weather, only bad clothes.” And while I mostly agree with that, some people love the rain. Here’s some people who felt so strongly about the weat ..read more

We carry 120 different molds here at Sabattus Disc Golf. Sure it’s mostly Innova, but we also carry MVP, ThoughtSpace Athletics, Axiom, and even 2 DGA molds. Sabattus Disc Golf is expanding our demo program to have all 120 molds we sell in the store!I’m a huge advocate of try-before-you-buy. So that’s why I’m pumped to announce that all the discs we sell in the shop are available for folks to get a round in! Buying a premium plastic, stock stamp disc is $16. Trying 1 disc a month for March-September is $112 dollars if you buy them. Save that money until you know what disc is right for you. Com ..read more
