30 May 2024 (Calgary, AB) – The 2024 Olympic & Paralympic Trials, Presented by Bell have recently concluded after seven exciting days of racing at the Toronto Pan American Centre. While the events primary selection focus is to select the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic teams, national junior team selections were also on the line.
A total of 118 swimmers representing thirteen Alberta programs battled for spots on the 2024 Olympic Team, 2024 Junior Pan Pacific Championships, and the World Aquatics Open Water Swimming Junior World Championships Teams.

Swimming Canada has recently announced the host locations for its revamped event schedule through 2028. This exciting lineup includes 21 editions of six domestic events, including the Canadian Open, Masters championships, Trials, short-course national championships, Open Water Festival, and the Ken Demchuk International Invitational. The strategic planning behind these events is part of Swimming Canada’s “Canadian Way” event hosting strategy, aimed at supporting the athlete development pathway and preparing the nation’s swimmers for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

VANCOUVER – 19 swimmers raced for Team Alberta at the 58th annual Mel Zajac International Swim Meet from June 2 to 4 at the UBC Aquatic Centre.
Originally founded in 1963 as Canada Cup by swim coach Howard Firby, the Mel Zajac Jr. International Swim Meet works to bring elite national and international talent to Vancouver to race local athletes. Now named after Canadian Olympic swimmer Mel Zajac Jr., the meet is the largest of its kind in Western Canada.

MALLORCA, Spain – From May 27 to June 2, five Albertan swimmers competed at the 2023 Best Fest open water swimming festival. Over the course of the week, Dominik Kwiecien (GPP), Shayne Bowie (EKSC) and Kealeigh McLeod (UCSC) brought home five medals across a variety of events.
Kwiecien captured silver in the 5-km and 10-km events in the elite junior men’s category. In the women’s 5-km, Bowie earned bronze in the elite senior women’s category. Swim Alberta’s Newcomer Grant will provide four (4) newcomers with grant support for one season with a Swim Alberta affiliated club. There are four (4) $1,000 awards to be given out to grant applicants.
Grants will be reviewed and awarded based on the following priority:
Priority 1:
One (1) grant will be awarded to the 8-10 age category.
One (1) grant will be awarded to the 11-15 and over age category.
