All US business owners should be aware of the new filing requirements for 2024
On January 1, 2024, the new Corporate Transparency Act (CTA) went into effect as part of an ongoing effort to combat money laundering and other illegal activities. The Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) is the Department of Treasury bureau that will enforce the CTA. The CTA requires businesses to report beneficial ownership (an individual who owns 25% or more of the business) information to FinCEN. The Supreme Court struck down student loan forgiveness - now what?
In the wake of the Supreme Court's decision to deny the proposed blanket forgiveness of outstanding student loans, things are about to change for millions of student loan borrowers throughout the US. Pandemic-era special provisions have meant that payments have not been required on federal student loans for almost three years. With approximately 3000 households behind on rent in Whatcom County, the County has opted in to take part in the Washington State program meant to assist in resolving eviction issues resulting from unpaid rent and the Covid-19 pandemic outside of court.
The Eviction Resolution Pilot Program in Whatcom County aims to provide better access to resources for landlords and tenants and assist in communicating between the parties to hopefully reduce the number of evictions that are ultimately taken to court. Washingtonians will soon be able to execute electronic wills, following a special new procedure recently authorized by the State Legislature.
That’s right, starting in 2022, Washington State will be one of a few states that will allow its citizens to have Electronic Wills.
Under the current Washington state law, a valid Will has to be a physical document, signed by the person making the will and witnessed by two competent individuals, in the presence of a Notary Public.
