Written by Afton Carraway   Hips and a spine - everybody’s got ‘em. Whether yours are tight and immobile or weak and unstable, yoga can help! My journey into pelvic floor health started after the birth of my daughters. Having babies did not leave me unscathed by the harsh reality of urinary incontinence and vaginal flatulence (#normalizequeefing!). As most of us do here in the West, I dealt with my pelvic floor issues by ignoring them and assuming they would eventually go away. They kind of did, but not really. Fast forward a few years and I find myself immersed in a 3-year yoga therapy p ..read more

A look back at our recent workshop with Ricky Tran - by Laine Edwards When it comes to learning Ashtanga the “old school” way, you won’t find anyone more passionate in DFW than Ricky Tran. One thing that is evident about Ricky while learning from him is the great love he has for his teachers.. like David Williams and David Swenson, two “pioneers” responsible for bringing the Ashtanga practice taught by their teacher Patabhi Jois, into the US. “Your Ashtanga practice will reflect your Ashtanga teacher” Ricky says, and this is the heart of the benefit of learning Ashtanga from a practitioner wh ..read more

What is Strength and Stability?
PURE Yoga Blog
by Monica LeBansky
3M ago
On the surface this seems like a simple question. Strength can be easily identified as our ability to engage our muscles and hold intensity over time. When we use our strength intelligently we create a sense of stability which resonates throughout the body enabling us to hold poses longer and find balance and steadiness. However, so we often find ourselves and our practice frustratingly unpredictable, experiencing that what we could do yesterday, we may not be able to do today. Occasionally too, we are able to do something we had never thought possible. Even as we acquire more strength, stabi ..read more

with David Swenson and Shelley Washington How close are your teachers to the source? When it comes to David and Shelley, about as close as a westerner can possibly be! Join them in exploring the in’s and out’s of one of the oldest and most revered yoga systems: Ashtanga Yoga. What makes them different? a public service announcement from Jeff and Mardy… With a heavy heart, we are closing the Cedar Park studio at the end of September, 2023. As we near the end of the lease term, we want to give as much advance notice of this disappointing news. Over the last several months, we sought solutions to keep hot yoga going at the current space beyond our lease term, but have been unsuccessful. We originally opened in Cedar Park on November 4, 2010, and over the last 12+ years introduced hot yoga to over 11,000 people. We are grateful for each and every one of you. We are grateful to all of the teache ..read more
