Well, it’s good to be back to let you know a little about how the farm has progressed and new and exciting developments ahead! It’s with overwhelming excitement that I can reveal a rather large expansion to the flower field front. An additional 3/4 of an acre that we’ll be working hard to develop into a stunning cutting garden for 2023. Our existing cutting garden is still going to play a major part for the farm as a trial garden, and of course the polytunnel will be the heart growing gorgeous hardy seedlings over winter ready to plant out into this massive space come spring. First tasks wi ..read more

Plant a little hope for the future

As the impending lockdown mark two ensues I can’t help but feel a palpable dread in the people I know. A knowing creeps across the population. Knowledge of exactly what lockdown means. To different people I guess it means different things. A seemingly black period of time whereby isolation becomes a practice rather than a noun. A passage to endure. Nurturing a sense of future is so important during these challenging times. I think there needs to be a 2 stage approach to dealing with times of uncertainty. Or certainly, approaching the previous lockdown in this way has helped me though. Firstly ..read more

It’s been an exciting week at the Cornish Cottage Garden as I’ve been busy making and creating, plus adding a shop to this website. Ive been thinking ahead to Christmas which seems very strange seeing as it’s all about fallen leaves and pumpkins at this time of year. To celebrate the launch of my ‘Gardeners Christmas crackers’ I have a giveaway running until 7pm on the 1st of November - on my Instagram page @thecornishcottahegarden with the chance to win a box of 4 hand-finished Xmas crackers. Adorned with hessian, dried orange and cinnamon- each cracker contains a packet of seeds to make the ..read more

Autumn in Kernow

Autumn seems to have truly begun in Cornwall and the crisp and sunny days are upon us. This week has been largely about lighting the log burner during the evening and watching the flames lick the wood and dance about it’s iron cage with careless, but simple beauty. I must confess that there hasn’t been a whole lot of progress in terms of garden or flower plot tasks as the darker evenings and office days have taken over somewhat, however I did get chance to potter Sunday afternoon away in the garden arranging the last of the garden blooms. I have the great pleasure of owning a horse and Saturd ..read more

This is my story of how gardening has helped me through the most challenging of times. World Mental health day was on the 10th of October. For this weeks blog I thought I’d talk about mental health and my own experiences around how gardening has quite literally helped me grow through the things that I’ve been through in terms of dealing with my own poor mental wellness during a difficult period in my life. Some might be surprised to know that I live with trauma induced depression and anxiety. The all consuming kind, the kind that robs you of all joy, of all reason and quite frankly- all hope ..read more

What to write about. We’ve had copious amounts of rain over the past week or so and that has stalled outdoor activities somewhat. That and an abrupt return to the office job on Monday. But that’s okay, autumn sowing has been keeping me busy. That and buying bulbs. 1500 of them to be exact. I have carefully procured the most beautiful and unusual tulips and narcissi for delivery in the coming month for November planting. I wonder if you’re interested in the varieties? In the hopes that you will be I’ll list them here: Daffodil Sir Winston Churchill. Daffodil Honolulu Daffodil Erlicheer ..read more

Floriferous Thoughts
The Cornish Cottage Garden Blog

Hi everyone! Welcome to my first blog. To tell the truth I actually am not entirely sure what a blog should look like and what it ‘should’ contain, but there’s no set framework for sharing a few thoughts, so from brain to page- here it goes! I thought that for today’s blog I’d share a little bit about some exciting developments that are coming to fruition at the moment as there’s plenty of time to share some other bits once the wave of furious floriferous planning has subsided somewhat. See, the clue is in the title. Something floral is on the horizon and almost entirely inspired by some wonde ..read more
