What is Barre?

Barre, pronounced /bar:/ This fitness class coined its term from the concept of the Ballet Barre; a horizontal beam usually fixed to a wall (though can be free standing) that is used to assist with Ballet moves such as Pliés, Tendus and Arabesques. It is a fantastic workout class that brings together two incredible disciplines that have been around (and proven their benefits) for decades. It mixes the finesse, choreography and poise of Ballet with the strength, stretch and stamina of Pilates. Both methods lend themselves perfectly to one another to create a class that will build ..read more

Why are the Pilates Magic Circles just so magical?! These small pieces of apparatus are fantastic to add into your matwork to bring a little bit of the resistance and connection element that working on the studio apparatus brings you. These can be used in a few different ways as stand alone exercises or integrated into your regular mat exercises. I brought them to my classes here in Norwich this week, and we had so much fun exploring and challenging the Pilates repertoire that I thought I’d share my top 5 reasons why they are just so magical!    Pilates and your Pelvic floor… Recently I was asked whether men have pelvic floors too or whether this was just a female anatomy thing. It got me to thinking, how I bet there are many others out there who are unsure on what the pelvic floor is or even if they have one. So I thought I’d write this blog to try to dispel some common myths… Firstly the pelvic floor is not just something woman have! But don’t worry if you did think that as it’s not uncommon for this to be a thought process, and most likely is the case because the term 'pelvic floor' was a buzz word not too long ago th ..read more

I have 3 pillars that I like to teach by… To Educate, to Encourage and to Inspire. I chose these 3 because they speak to how I learn and have learnt about my own body and it’s capabilities. Firstly I want to educate you, not only in the Pilates method where I will teach the exercises and how to execute them, but also in understanding HOW to move your body. Ultimately I want to give each of you enough knowledge and power to become your own teacher. To begin to notice the little ways in which you move through life, so that you can decide whether there are any small changes you can ..read more

Time For You

Taking your foot off the gas doesn’t mean you have to stop. I recently spoke to a friend of mine (she’s very similar to me) about how we feel when we slow down in life. We both always seem to be running at a million miles per hour. Chasing our tails and on a constant cycle of go go go! She recently took a couple days rest and I’ve just done a little slowing down myself. However both of us realised that we didn’t really know what to do with ourselves during this time and that we felt quite guilty for taking time off. We have programmed ourselves so well to thrive off the constant ..read more
