Millions of costumes are sold every year for World Book Day, which is just one of the ‘dress up’ days that kids have at school nowadays. Many of these mass-produced costumes are made of low quality materials – often plastic based, are made with dubious ethics and many are discarded after being used once. Costumes are therefore, a HUGE environmental problem, adding to our textile waste with over 7 million halloween costumes alone being thrown in the bin each year. Many fun costume can be created with things from around the house with a little creativity and ingenuity. Here are some of the ones ..read more

Most of us have things in our wardrobe that need repairing or refitting, be that a button sewing on, a hole to fix or trousers taking up. It is likely these have been unworn for some time as you haven’t got round to doing it and a lot of people throw them out rather than doing something about it. Clothing patches are a quick and easy way to repair kids clothes, covering holes and stains or even to liven up and old garment. Iron-on versions make it very simple but sewing them on will make them more durable. I take a look at some of the best ones around to save you time. My advice is to choose iron-on patches and then once they are affixed you can sew around the edge to make them really durable. The glue on the back of an iron-on patch will also help to hold together any rip or hole you are trying to cover.
