Land Rover has a well-deserved reputation as the vehicle of choice for organizations, big and small, that seek to make a difference in the world. To carry this forward in North America, Jaguar Land Rover created the Defender Service Awards. Working with additional corporate sponsors, JLR will donate a Defender 130 to five different organizations in the US and Canada. Joe Eberhardt, CEO of JLR, said “The ‘Defender Service Awards’ are a beloved initiative that we are proud to bring back for a third year. Celebrating the organizations that make a difference in our communities speaks to the core ..read more

In September 8, the first anniversary of the death of Queen Elizabeth, the Goodwood Revival, held annually at the Goodwood Motor Circuit, Chichester, North Sussex, included a one-lap parade of Royal Land Rovers as a tribute to her reign and family. Each of the nine Series I, II, IIA, Defenders and Range Rovers had close links to the Royal Family, either carrying out official duties through the UK or contributing to the life of the royal family at one of their estates. The vehicles included: Series I, plate number HAC379, one of 48 prototypes from 1948, photographed with King George VI Series ..read more

Dear Rovers North, Your guidance has helped me tremendously through the first three months of Series ownership. Your ability to diagnose and troubleshoot has proved indispensable to this budding Rover mechanic! My ‘74 SWB was able to get on the road safely before the summer weather receded to southern climes because of the many discussions, online parts shopping, and nearly weekly anticipation of the package with the Rovers North logo-tape on it. My wife knows when a Rovers North box has arrived by the tape — and the bubble wrap inside gains a second life as “fireworks” under our toddler’s exc ..read more

In this world of social media, 24/7 connectedness and content shoved down our throats ad nauseam, it’s no wonder that mental health experts worldwide express grave concern about the stability of our psyches. Disconnecting through a long drive and overnight camping has become my favorite way to deal with the strains of everyday life. To keep my mental health above the threshold of sanity, I prefer being out in nature, listening to the birds singing in the trees and enjoying the sounds and sights of a river flowing nearby, to the constant barrage of pings and rings of online notificati ..read more

Chasing the Dream

I was born a car guy. In the late 1970s, my father worked for Alfa Romeo, opening up dealerships; my mother served as vice-president of the local Alfa club. Dad enjoyed an Alfa Duetto and later a TVR Vixen. Me, I bought a ’75 Porsche 914 project that I could not complete until 1999. In 2003, my brother and I opened our shop, Eurotech Classics, where — you guessed it — we wrenched on anything vintage and Euro. Eurotech became my second home, spending more than 20 years there. Then came an opportunity from the Discovery Channel, on which I co-starred in the reality show Garage Rehab. Our t ..read more

Summer Lovin’

Remember the best summer of your life? The one where you met the girl or guy, experienced life in ways that you had only imagined, woke up every day with boundless enthusiasm and then — as it if was all too good to be true — the summer ended and you returned to the daily grind? Last year, I had that summer when I purchased a Defender 90 in Europe [See “The Art of Driving Slowly, Holiday 2022 issue -ed]. Just like the movie Grease, my return to the grind would come with a surprise reprise. Last year I randomly met the Land Rover Wizard of Genoa, Maurico Ferrando of Technomeccanica, who gave my ..read more

I’ve spent my working life as a mechanic/restorer working on cement shop floors and jumping down from tow trucks onto hard ground. More recently, the pounding resulted in ankle surgery with doctor’s orders to put no weight on my left ankle for a minimum of eight weeks. That meant no left foot clutch action for two months! I found myself in Rover withdrawal yet really wanting to attend the second annual Maine Misfits and Rover Bits in Greene, ME last July. My son Jacob and I devised a scheme to fabricate a hand clutch setup on my ‘58 Series I 109”, named “The Silver Bullet.” This Land Rover h ..read more

Saving a Great Divide

Every auto enthusiast, married or otherwise, knows life eases substantially with a patient and understanding significant other. Washing, waxing and wrenching on our Land Rovers can be costly and can take away from quality time at home. It’s a bonus when your partner supports your passion, and that support gets put to the test in a quest to bring home a Range Rover Classic. Doug needed that support when, three years ago, he found a neglected Range Rover Great Divide Expedition in North Carolina. “I have always loved the look of the Range Rover Classic but was a little intimidated by the work a ..read more

Although I’m Belgian by birth, I’ve spent many enjoyable years living and working in St. Simon, France. Les Français hold their rural, agricultural regions — as well as their Land Rovers — in high regard, especially Land Rovers used in daily work. I’m a digital marketing consultant, so naturally I turned to social media for leads and discovered the “Land Rover Wallpapers” group on Facebook, created by José Macedo. I asked for their help in finding Land Rover enthusiasts who use theirs for work – and they came through for me in splendid fashion. France is shaped like a hexagon. On the southern ..read more
