How Can I Soften The Ankles Of My Boots? Question for The Boot Guy: I bought my wife some boots last year while I was in Texas. She absolutely loves the boots, but cannot wear them because the sides of the boots near the ankles collapse in on her legs causing great pain. Is there a way to reinforce the ankle area? I have tried moleskin as an experiment but it did not work. Any suggestions?   Good question and I have some answers.   -Question. First, are the boots tight on her calves? I ask because if the top of the boot is too tight it can force the boot to buckle in at the ankle. Th ..read more

If I Use Black Shoe Polish On My Brown Boots Would It Make Them Black?

If you use black shoe polish on brown work boots, the result would be some color in between brown and black. What color you end up with depends on how soft the finish of the leather is on the brown boots that you want to change the color on. The final color you end up with would probably not be an even color. It may be blotchy or streaked. This is because though the polish has some stain in it, mostly it will just sit on top of the leather and not soak in much.  However, every time you polish with the black polish the boot will get blacker. If you want to change the color to black I would ..read more

My Heel Slips And Is Too Loose In My High Heel Shoes. What Can I Do?

What can be done if your heel slips in a high heel pump shoe? We have a solution. Our expert repair crew can help by adding an elastic strap inside the heel. We solve this common problem by sewing a piece of elastic inside of the heel counter of the shoe. The elastic grabs the back of your heel and helps keep the shoe on. It helps prevent blisters that occur when a shoe is slipping up and down too much. Now the best solution is to buy shoes that fit properly. But, I understand sometimes one shoe fits and the mate doesn't. Or maybe you have wide feet, but narrow heels and just can't ..read more

Can A Boot Cobbler Make My Boots Fit Better?

Question: I have been wearing western boots for over 40 years. Recently I bought a pair of H&H western style work boots online ( a first for me; buying online) and have not been successful breaking them in I've tried every thing I know over a long period of time and the boots are un-wearable. There is way too much room in the vamp area which causes my heel to really lift. It's like trying to walk in flip-flops. I have tried insoles, heel pads, heavy socks and several other things with little success. The foot part of the boot fits comfortably but the heel and the vamp are just too big. Ca ..read more

How Do I Care For My New Leather Boots?

There are a few things that are a great idea to pick up with any boot purchase. A basic water protectant and a leather conditioner. If you're going to start with anything though it should be a protectant.  Protection: The type of protection you need for your leather boots or shoes right off the bat depends on what you're using your shoes for. And what sort of environment they might be exposed to on a day to day basis. For instance if your boots are for everyday wear, fashion or special occasions; a spray waterproofer might be the best choice. If your boots are for work or hiking and you a ..read more

Kay asked: I have a pair of Rios of Mercedes boots belonging to my late husband. One of the boots has a gouge about the size of a dime in the side of the toe. Can this be repaired?   Answer: Yes, your boots can be fixed. Our repair dept. at Boyers Bootnshoe, can successfully buff out most scuffs, scrapes, and gouges. How much can be removed depends on several things, the color of the leather, how soft the leather is, and how deep the damage is. Repair of a black boot made out of a firm leather is more successful than doing a light tan boot made out of very soft, light tan color leath ..read more

Theres nothing quite so unpleasant as having your toes squeezed in a vise grip of a shoe. It can just turn a whole work day into unbearable. Worse still are the sides of your boot busting out after no time at all. With my years of working with boots and talking to those who need work and industrial footwear  I have compiled a starting list of a few boots I recommend for those with very wide feet. They are in no particular order.  It can be difficult to find shoes that fit just right when you have wide feet. I decided to put together this list of specific boots and bran ..read more

Can You Repair An Uncomfortable Heel Counter In Boot?

Scott asks: The inside heel of my boot is starting to roll up and create a ridge in the center of the heel counter inside my boot making it very uncomfortable. Is this a repairable problem? These are my favorite boots and are quite expensive to replace. Thanks for the question Scott. Yes, at Boyer's BootNShoe, we can make your boot comfortable again. It sounds like the heel counter or heel back in your boot has worn a hole or has come un-stitched and rolled down. ( A heel counter/heel back is the inside back lining of a boot that snugs up against your heel). We see this problem a lot and we ca ..read more
