May 3, 2024 Apparel retailer rue21 has filed for bankruptcy and plans to close all stores, which would include the one in Sioux Falls. The remaining location is in The Empire Mall. At one point, rue 21 had stores across South Dakota, including in Mitchell, Watertown, Pierre and Aberdeen. It’s down to the one in Sioux Falls and one in Rapid City — two of 540 locations companywide.
