We are so pleased to bring you another "Giant" in the 2024 Spring edition (11.1) of Aromatika magazine.
Gergely Hollodi had the pleasure of interviewing Robert Tisserand for our "Giant's" column. Robert is the founder of the Tissarand Institute.
How did you get involved with Aromatherapy?
My initial involvement was as a teenager and through my mother. She trained with Micheline Arcier, who had been a student of Marguerite Maury. She was taking clients at home while I was still living with my parents, so aromatherapy was happening in my home. The first time I heard t ..read more

Welcome to the 2024 Spring edition (11.1) of Aromatika magazine.
Gergely Hollodi had the pleasure of interviewing Caroline Ingraham for our "Giant's" column. Caroline is the founder of Applied Zoopharmacognosy, which is commonly but probably not correctly referred to as 'animal aromatherapy'. This is a very powerful and interesting interview.
What is your first memory about your first contact with essential oils?
It was when I experienced their powerful healing abilities first-hand. During my first aromatherapy lesson, I came down with cystitis, a condition that would t ..read more

How did you initially get involved with aromatherapy, and what made you start working with essential oils? I was originally enchanted with the aromatics of Yemen, and I kept going back, geeking out on insane hair balms, bakhoor, weird perfumes and chewing qat. Due to an improbably strange series of circumstances and places, I ended up in New York via Cairo and Vancouver, having had a sudden inspiration about gathering aromatics from around the world into one place. I was not, and still am not "businessminded", so my plan stopped there.

How did you initially get involved with aromatherapy, and what made you start working with essential oils?
My first contact with essential oils took place when I was around 19 years old, as I was studying naturopathic medicine (there was a one-year ‘break’ in my medical University education, and I decided to turn to naturopathy, but later on, I resumed my university studies).
What is your first memory about your first contact with essential oils? My first memory is about marjoram (true marjoram, Origanum majorana). I was very impressed by the powerful scent of this aromatic liquid, and from th ..read more

How did you initially get involved with aromatherapy, and what made you start working with essential oils?
I grew up with herbal remedies and treatments at home; my British grandmother had worked with Rudolph Steiner, my mother was German, and a cousin was a homoeopath, so herbs, homoeopathy and natural remedies were everyday life. I had my first acupuncture at 14 after falling off a horse, and it opened my eyes to TCM. I was already in love with giving and receiving massages with friends lining up for back rubs, so I was steeped in holistic health of every kind from a very young age. When I w ..read more

Where did you start your career? In London – I commenced a Shiatsu practice in 1984 and an Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine and Clinical Aromatherapy practice in 1988, where I also founded the Institute of Traditional Herbal Medicine and Aromatherapy (ITHMA) in 1990 and the Register of Qualified Aromatherapists (RQA) in the same year. The RQA merged with ISPA (founded by Shirley Price in 1991) to form IFPA in 2002.
What is your first memory about your first contact with essential oils? Although I didn't know it was Aromatherapy, when I was very young, from the age of six, my Mother would vapourize ..read more

Petrichor Attar oil is one of the rarest attar oils. Petrichor in French means "the smell of raindrops coming from the dry earth after a long summer". In India, it has been known for thousands of years as "Gandha Bhoomi", "First Monsoon Smell", "Rain Earth Smell" and "Mother Earth Smell". Gandha means aroma, and Bhoomi means sacred mother earth. Bhoomi is also one of the great five elements (air, water, earth, fire, and space) that form the whole universe, including our human body. The concept of Bhoomi is limited to not only solid earth but also the earth element, which plays a significant ro ..read more
