Linked – How To Communicate Better At Work Easily And Accomplish More

Of all the skills that Liz writes about to help us all communicate better, this is the key. If the leaders in your workplace are not communicating, and we see how important listening is to that communication as well, the rest of the team is unlikely to be doing it well either. It’s a modeled behavior. When leaders are open to connection, listen carefully to their reports, and work toward clarity and agreement, that flows down into how the team interacts with each other. When leaders only ever issue directives with no consideration for the humans who report to them, you’ll see that same behavio ..read more

I’m not exaggerating. The distaste users had for the software they were forced to use because the organization purchased it was only equaled by how little they knew about how to use it. This is not a coincidence. Poor training or lack of training leaves users figuring out what to do on their own, and they usually miss out on many of the features that could make their jobs easier. Most of them figure out enough to get by ..read more

The study authors pointed out that they only researched text-based platforms. Video platforms may be worse in terms of toxicity. However, that hasn’t been my experience; they seem pretty similar to me, but that’s just anecdotal. They also pointed out that current-day social networks are much larger. Many more people see the toxicity on Facebook than people who saw a Usenet post in the 90s. That also means there is more total toxicity. It might only be 7-10% of the content, but the content generated by 500 million users dwarfs the content generated by 10,000 users. So there’s more of it; we are ..read more

The entire system is based on the license plate database being connected to all of the automated plate readers. All it took for this to become a problem was for part of that not to stay safe. Since the license plate database isn’t, anyone can create a fake license plate, pop it on a similar-looking vehicle, and the collected data is tainted. All those people who had nothing to hide now have a system that assumes they were driving illegally, causing accidents, etc. They are facing actual fines, increased insurance costs, and possible arrests because of surveillance data that’s been hacked. Data ..read more

Is It Time to Retire Values Like Resiliency and Grit in the Workplace?

We are seeing a demand to create jobs that don’t require ever-growing amounts of grit and resilience. It’s not the worst idea I’ve heard. It places responsibility where it belongs—on employers. Instead of pushing people to break and replacing them with the next person and repeating the cycle, it allows workers to have a career and a life outside of work. I don’t think that is too much to expect ..read more
