Canberra Brave have announced the signing of American forward Austin Cangelosi for the 2024 Australian Ice Hockey League season. Cangelosi spent 2023–24 playing for Stjernen Hockey in the EliteHockey Ligaen where he recorded 28 goals and 36 assists from 45 games. Between 2011 and 2024 Cangelosi has spent time playing in the American Hockey League, DEL, Elite Ice Hockey League’s Elite Series, EliteHockey Ligaen (formally known as Fjordkraftligaen and GET-ligaen), the NCAA’s Division I, and the United States Hockey League.

Round 5 of the 2024 East Coast Super League regular season has finished with wins for the Reach Rebels and Sydney Bombers. With their win the Sydney Bombers extend their lead at the top of standings, two points clear of the now second placed Reach Rebels who jumped up from fifth. The Newcastle Northstars meanwhile drop from second to third, the Polyflor Raptors from third to fourth, and the Sydney Heat from fourth to fifth. Competition resumes on 4 May with the Sydney Heat hosting the Sydney Bombers at Erina. Then on 5 May the Polyflor Raptors take on the Newcastle Northstars in Newcastle.

Forward Chris Lawrence has left the Melbourne Mustangs to return home to Canada. Lawrence played four games for the club in 2024, scoring five goals and two assists. Since joining the Mustangs in 2023 he has competed in a total of 25 games and recorded 60 points. It is currently unclear if he will return to the club later in the season.

Day 10 of the 2024 Australian Ice Hockey League regular season has finished with wins for the Central Coast Rhinos, Melbourne Ice, and Sydney Ice Dogs. In the Hellyer Conference, the Melbourne Ice remain at the top of the standings and the Sydney Ice Dogs move up to fourth, pushing the Melbourne Mustangs down to fifth. In the Rurak Conference, the Newcastle Northstars continue to lead the standings and the Central Coast Rhinos switch places with Canberra Brave, moving from fifth to fourth. The Australia men’s national team have lost 4–5 to the United Arab Emirates men’s national team in their final game of the 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Division II Group A tournament in Belgrade, Serbia. Australia’s goals were scored by Casey Kubara, Jordan Kyros, Vadim Virjassov, and Jamie Woodman. The IIHF award for best Australian player of the match was given to defender Jamie Woodman.
