Cannabis cultivation for indoor growers is a precise art, and many growers are now relying on LED lights for their indoor grows, taking advantage of all the technological advancements in supplemental lighting.  Because of the strain cannabis growing can put on electric bills, it makes sense that LED lights are both the economical and environmental choice for growers who still want to see results without paying the price. LEDs also have the capacity to generate greater light intensity. Most HPS grow lights used for indoor grows generate between 900 and 1,200 PPFD (Photosynthetic Photon Flu ..read more

After a years-long push from advocates and lengthy legislative debates, Minnesota officially became the 23rd state in the U.S. to legalize recreational cannabis in August of last year. The North Star State now finds itself in a gray area of sorts, having legalized possession, cultivation, and use of cannabis while awaiting the launch of legal adult-use sales. Minnesota joined Delaware and Ohio in passing legislation to legalize cannabis in 2023, and now more than half of the U.S. population lives in places where cannabis is recreationally legal. Minnesota’s recent move is just one recent indic ..read more

Cannabis is a fairly easy plant to grow, but producing high-quality buds isn’t so simple. There are a lot of strains out there, and understanding how to cultivate them into high-yielding plants requires some experience and/or extensive knowledge. Cannabis can be cultivated in different ways and the method used to grow/cultivate must be decided on in advance. Before starting the cultivation process, it’s important to research whether it’s best to grow indoor, or outdoor, or greenhouse, or soil, or hydro, and so on. It’s important to pick a cultivation method that is best suited to your skill le ..read more

Marianne Cursetjee is the CEO and co-founder of Alibi Cannabis, a self-funded, top-shelf cannabis company with a female head grower. Alibi has earned recognition for growing some of the best flower in Oregon. Cursetjee doesn’t have the typical cannabis grower background — for one, she has an MBA. She worked at Microsoft, Intel, and other big name companies with no plan to become a cannabis entrepreneur. She found her way there after developing cancer and having side effects from chemo. She also had to overcome her background of being raised in a conservative Christian home, where cannabis was ..read more

Whether you’re a large-scale commercial grower or a small-scale craft grower, protecting your valuable crops is usually the first thing on your mind. You can find lots of ways to protect your plants from bugs and other issues, but if they aren’t sustainable, it’s going to cost you in more ways than one in the long run. If it’s not an environmentally friendly method, you’re hurting your own growing environment. And if it’s not cost effective, you’ll quickly eat into your profit margins, making it hard to maintain your business. That’s where integrated pest management (IPM) comes in. IPM is a ho ..read more

A Brief History of Cannabis and Humans
Grow Magazine

Cannabis use by humans has been going on since before people started writing things down. As such, details are sketchy and some educated guesswork is involved in trying to reconstruct our shared long history. What we do know, which I’ve outlined below, is based on current archaeological thinking, and some details may well change as new archaeological data is available. Cannabis sativa, as many will agree, is a very useful plant. As a species it is thought to have evolved during the Miocene period around 28 million years ago. For perspective, Homo sapiens (modern humans) are thought to have onl ..read more

Thailand’s Cannabis Conundrum

After decades of prohibition, Thailand embarked on a historic shift in its approach to cannabis. After Thailand became the first country in Southeast Asia to allow medicinal use in 2018, and then recreational use in 2022, tens of thousands of cannabis shops sprung up to get their piece of a pie that was projected to be very large — up to $1.2 billion. The move not only signaled a progressive stance on the medicinal benefits of the plant but also held promise for economic opportunities in the region’s emerging cannabis industry. Then they backtracked. What changed?  What Went Wrong Little ..read more

Psychedelics clinical trials

In late May, a key GOP House committee approved a defense bill that also included some fine print about marijuana and psychedelics, including a proposal to prohibit military branches from testing recruits for cannabis. The House Armed Services Committee passed the 2025 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) on May 22. A provision calls for an update from the Department of Defense (DOD) on the status of its psychedelics clinical trials that are being conducted as prescribed under the 2024 version of the bill. An amendment from Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) would require DOD to issue a report on how ..read more
