Timothée Chalamet has clocked into his shift as “young Bob Dylan” and is already filming scenes where he’s singing as the music legend. On Monday, Chalamet was captured in New Jersey filming a scene for the Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown alongside Monica Barbaro, who plays Joan Baez. The clip sees Barbaro and Chalamet surrounding a microphone while strumming their guitars before he starts playing the harmonica. Director James Mangold previously revealed that Chalamet would do his own singing in the Dylan-approved film. Timothée Chalamet, as Bob Dylan, and Monica Barbaro, as Joan Baez ..read more

‘Shrek’ Ruined Kids’ Movies — But That’s OK

A few months ago, I was scrolling through TikTok when I saw a video of Shrek on a giant screen at a rave, happily gamboling through his swamp to a remixed version of “Boom Boom Boom Boom.” Then the beat drops, and he starts stomping and projectile vomiting all over the audience, lasers shooting out of his eyes. It’s truly a terrifying sight, particularly if you’re on molly, as many of the attendees likely are. But judging by their reaction in the video, they can’t  get enough of it. Rolling millennials’ gleeful reception toward the seven-foot-tall ogre is nothing less than a testament t ..read more

Now that’s how you do an Oscar Night right. The 96th Academy Awards show felt like a real celebration, in a great year for movies — nearly all 10 of the Best Picture nominees were keepers. This was an Oscars bash full of classic moments: Da’Vine Joy Randolph bringing everyone to tears. Ryan Gosling rocking “I’m Just Ken” with Slash on guitar. Rita Moreno singing “America” to America Ferrera. The orchestra trying to play off Sean Ono Lennon as he had the crowd say, “Happy Mother’s Day, Yoko!” Exactly one joke about researching spiders in the Amazon. A very naked John Cena. This show had it al ..read more

We came, we saw, we sat there dumbstruck as Ryan Gosling gave the Oscars one hot-pink, high-Kenergy musical number and John Cena almost showed us his naked butt. The 96th Academy Awards gave us highs, lows, several long-overdue wins (Robert Downey Jr.! Wes Anderson! Christopher Freakin’ Nolan!!), Lily Gladstone making history and a lovely, if predictable round of victories for the juggernaut that was Oppenheimer. We also witnessed some truly WTF bits, what-were-they-thinking musical cues and more than a few oh-dear-god-no jaw-droppers. Here are the 10 best, worst and wildest moments of the 2 ..read more

Surprising no one, Ryan Gosling absolutely delivered with a performance of his Oscar-nominated Barbie song “I’m Just Ken” at the 2024 Oscars, capable of burning down any mojo dojo casa house. The actor, clad in an all-pink suit and cowboy hat, started the song from his seat in the audience, cracking up Billie Eilish and Margot Robbie as he started singing. Mark Ronson joined Gosling, backing him on guitar, and a group of dancers, including Barbie actor Simu Liu, as well as Wolfgang Van Halen also joined the set. Midway through the song, Slash brought his guitar onstage to accompany the impas ..read more

Heading into the 2024 Academy Awards, a pair of Barbie tracks were favorites to win Best Original Song: Billie Eilish’s ballad “What Was I Made For?” — which took home the same award at the Golden Globes and Grammys earlier this year — and the Ryan Gosling-sung anthem “I’m Just Ken,” which recently won the Best Song at the Critics Choice Awards. On Oscars night, it was Eilish who won the award, making her the youngest two-time Oscar winner. “I had a nightmare about this last night,” Eilish said, clearly flustered as she accepted the award. “I just didn’t think this would happen. I wasn’t exp ..read more

Once considered merely a segment of fringe subculture, anime has exploded in recent years, smashing international box office records and becoming a means of escape for casual fans and self-confessed otaku alike. Whether you favour the kawaii or the kowai, one thing that can be said of most anime is that their immersive worlds, relatable characters, and larger-than-life stories resonate universally. From the giant-sized sumo to the Okinawan cityscape, the artwork adorning Monsutā’s cans is inspired by anime’s larger-than-life stories and the landscape of Japan, where its drinks are made and c ..read more

Many decades ago, a man — feared by some and respected by others — had a breakthrough idea. He and a team of dedicated colleagues worked feverishly to make the conceptual notion come to fruition. It was a big swing, and the end result would become a historical game changer. Naturally, there was as much peril as there was progress in the endeavor, because this highly divisive figure had unleashed something not even he could control. Over the years, his innovation would be exploited and perverted beyond even his wildest dreams. We are, of course, talking about Louis B. Meyer, the movie mogul w ..read more
