WASHINGTON — A driver died after a vehicle crashed into a gate at the White House Saturday night, but the fatal collision is being investigated “only as a traffic crash” and there was no threat to the president’s residence, law enforcement authorities said.
The male driver, who was not immediately identified, was found dead in the vehicle following the crash shortly before 10:30 p.m. at an outer perimeter gate of the White House complex, the U.S. Secret Service said in a statement.

KYIV, Ukraine — As Ukraine marked its third Easter at war, Russia launched a barrage of drones concentrated in Ukraine’s east and claimed its troops took control of a village they had been targeting.
Ukraine’s air force said Sunday that Russia had launched 24 Shahed drones, of which 23 had been shot down by air defenses.
Six people, including a child, were wounded in a drone strike in the eastern Kharkiv region, regional Gov. Oleh Syniehubov said.

Lorain County Community College and Sherwin-Williams have collaborated to launch “Create Your Possible: Sherwin-Williams Career Accelerator,” a new scholarship program for students studying software development at LCCC or the LCCC University Partnership, according to a news release.

Bo Naylor hit his first career grand slam, Austin Hedges had his first homer since June 14 and the Guardians beat the Angels, 7-1, on Saturday night.
Naylor’s two-out blast to right in the sixth inning came off Angels starter Reid Detmers (3-3), who had loaded the bases on three walks.
“Anytime I’m out there, I’m ready to play and this was a great opportunity to help the Guardians win,” Naylor said. “This team is really resilient and we take everything super serious.”

The Gallery of Success at Brookside High School, 1812 Harris Road in Sheffield Village, will add three new members this year.
Essentially, the gallery serves as the school’s hall of fame, according to Sheffield-Sheffield Lake School District Board of Education member Sandra Jensen.
This year’s inductees were chosen for the Gallery of Success for a variety of reasons, Jensen said.

Avon Lake needed a spark after going 3-11 coming back from their spring break trip in early April with a 5-1 start.
Hosting Rocky River on May 4, the Shoremen found exactly what they were looking for. Young starter Blake Andrensen pitched a complete game two-hitter for the Shoremen and the offense was led by Cavin Kretchmar’s two hits and two RBI, for a 6-0 win.

The Oberlin African-American Genealogical and History Group held its biennial Mind Feast event May 4 at the Oberlin Public Library.
The event featured presentations from professional genealogists J. Mark Lowe and Deborah Abbott, and A.G. Miller, pastor at Oberlin House of the Lord Fellowship and professor emeritus of Religion and Africana Studies at Oberlin College.

The Allen Memorial Art Museum will close for the summer starting May 27 in the lead up to the completion of Oberlin College and Conservatory’s Sustainable Infrastructure Program (SIP), according to a news release.
This project will transition the campus to a geothermal heating and cooling system and bring it within sight of the goal of attaining carbon neutrality by 2025, the release said.
