Regulations administered by SA Power Networks state that transformer type inverters are no longer to be used as replacements – effectively being banned. This means if your inverter has failed and it’s a transformer based type, it can only be replaced with a “TL transformer less” inverter. Using a TL inverter requires all the panels and framing to be earthed which is an added cost to the new inverter. Many older systems which used transformer inverters in their systems, will not have earthed the panels because it wasn’t required at the time. If you see this error on your Fronius IG inverter it means there’s a DC leakage somewhere in the system and the inverter is detecting it. The leakage may be in the panels or anywhere in the wiring or even in the DC isolator on the roof or near the inverter. We’ll show you how you can clear this error by turning off the detection via the inverter menu. However doing this will NOT fix the error, it will simply remove the daily message you see. The Disturbance Vac-bfr error on SMA Sunny Boy inverters means there’s been an interruption to the AC supply to the inverter. Generally there’s an orange light displayed as well but that may depend on the model inverter. Though SMA inverters do fail internally occasionally on the AC side, it’s pretty rare and it’s more than likely the AC or solar supply main switch has flicked off which is causing the error. Simply re-setting the AC switch to the on position (up) will normally fix the issue and away you go. In the early days of the solar industry, DC circuit breakers were regulated and approved for use. However the DC circuit breaker shown above is the result of a customer shutting down the system incorrectly. Under full load, the circuit breaker began arcing internally and grew into a fire ball resulting in the above. It was just lucky the fire didn’t spread and cause more damage. If you have a DC isolator that looks the same or similar to the pictures below, you need to upgrade the circuit breaker to an approved DC switch. Rain and frost causes PV Isolation low error. Lately we’ve been inundated with customers calling about their inverter showing a “PV Isolation Low” or just “Isolation Error”.
