A home in its own time
Sunday Bedding Journal
by Alex Fan

The view from the front door. When we first found Our Whampoa House on Instagram, we were taken by the unusual layout of the home. The front door opens into a long, window-flanked hallway. On the left, closed off from the rest of the home, lies the kitchen — so large that it has an island in the middle of it. This unorthodox layout was what eventually sold homeowners E and H on the unit. They particularly liked the size of the kitchen and that it could be closed off from the rest of the home, but their reason for preferring a separate kitchen was somewhat unusual… Fig on our new Pine ..read more

Locating Home with Lydia Elder
Sunday Bedding Journal

How do you respond to the question where are you from? For some of us, the answer can be a little more complicated. Born and raised here till her late teens, Lydia Elder holds a British passport, though her heart has always belonged to Singapore. At 19, she moved to the UK for university, then spent the next decade there working and raising her children. In the middle of the pandemic in 2021, Lydia and her husband decided to move to Singapore — a return “home” for Lydia, even as she had finally put roots down in the UK. The question of where are you from has understandably only gotten more ..read more

Debby with her kids, Ray (left) and Mika (right) Entrepreneur Debby Yu always knew she wanted to be a designer. She also knew she didn’t want to be a parent — that is, until she met Matthijs Rikken, whom she eventually married. “I don’t know why,” she says, “I didn’t want kids but I had a list of names if I were to have kids. On our third date, I told Matt my list of 100 names and he didn’t go away. I thought, ‘Oh, here’s a keeper.’” Today, Debby and Matt run STUDIO DAM, a branding consultancy and design studio, and EVERCASA, a home decor brand (and a Sunday Bedding collaborator!) that ..read more

All About Our Sunday Have-It-All Pillow
Sunday Bedding Journal
by Alex Fan

We first thought about developing our own pillow two years ago but hesitated for a long time because we know pillows are a fiercely debated personal preference. Some of us look for softness, some look for support, and others swear by using only specific materials and brands. So, we made it our goal to create a pillow that would suit as many people as possible by thinking out of the (pillow) box. Literally, we broke apart the conventional pillow and created 2 parts to provide both softness, support, and a variety of materials. Below, we answer a few commonly asked questions about the pillows ..read more

Stop and Smell the Flowers with Youmin Yap
Sunday Bedding Journal

For much of her life, Youmin Yap adhered to a fairly typical trajectory: in school, she focused on getting good grades; after graduation, she secured a stable job, and in her career, she steadily climbed the ranks. Trained in life sciences, Youmin began her career as a biology and mathematics teacher in secondary schools — a job she loved dearly — before joining a statutory board to do policy work. In 2016, she and her husband climbed Mt Kenya. From there, something inside her began to change. To mark the launch of our upcoming Sunday Made with Liberty Fabric collection, we connected with ..read more

The Lims at home. Behind them, a sneak peek of an upcoming Sunday launch! When Amanda and Tyler Lim first moved in together, they shared a small apartment in Boon Keng but not much time at home. Amanda — a certified fitness coach and nutritionist — was regularly leaving the house before 6am to get to work, while Tyler — a medical doctor — was pulling 80-hour work weeks in the hospital. 6.5 years on, life has drastically changed for the Lims. Now in their second home — and about to move to their third — the couple has 2 kids, Louise (almost 3) and Archie (1+), a shared business (while ea ..read more

The lunar new year can be such an exciting season with the feasts, snacks, and boisterous reunions. But it can also be a tad overwhelming, especially when reunions come with a disclaimer of having to field awkward, nosy questions at the dinner table, or dealing with post-meal bloating. Plus, if you’re spending the holiday alone, the festivities everywhere you look can exacerbate feelings of loneliness, and make this a particularly difficult period to endure. From us to you, here are a few tips on enjoying the lunar new year with as little discomfort as possible. How to tackle awkward qu ..read more

Towel Care 101
Sunday Bedding Journal

Washing your towels may sound pretty simple, but we’re all for making our purchases last as long as possible. While towels are generally pretty easy to care for, we’ve assembled a few tips and things to expect when using your towels. 1) Your First Wash Your towel may feel different after your first wash. Fret not, as the cotton fibres typically ‘open up’ after the first wash and dry cycle. This ensures maximum absorbency so that your towel is ready to soak up all that excess water when you wipe down from your next bath. 2) Wash and Dry We recommend washing your towels every week. Avoid s ..read more

As a self-proclaimed recovering black thumb, Chika knows creating a leafy paradise in the city can be harder than it looks. Living in an 800sqft condominium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with her husband, son, and resident cat Soya McFurry, Chika hasn’t always found it easy to find the right conditions for greenery, or balance busy city life with plant care. Although it may have taken her a while to get there, Chika’s efforts have paid off.
