Ethel softball advances to South State Championship

For the second year in a row, the Ethel Lady Tigers softball team will play for the 1A South State Championship. The team swept through its 3rd round series with a 6-3 Game One win Thursday (May 1) and 5-0 win in Game Two Saturday (May 4). The Lady Tigers will face Stringer in the South State Championship later this week. Wanted Man Caught With Drugs in Kosciusko

KOSCIUSKO, Miss.–A man who was wanted in Lowndes County, was caught by an Attala County deputy in Kosciusko Saturday night. The deputy told dispatchers he was making a traffic stop in the Wendy’s parking lot on Hwy. 12, about 10:35 p.m. He asked for a driver’s license check, which came back for Zachary Colt McClusky, 32, of Starkville. McClusky not only had a warrant out for his arrest in Lowndes County, but also had an extensive criminal history that includes a driver’s license that has not been valid for 10 years. KOSCIUSKO, Miss.–Some concerned parents called police Saturday night at 8 about a man they said was taking pictures of little girls at an event at Hugh Ellard Field E. They described the man as wearing a turbine, but the dispatcher had no further description. The person who called in said the parents and the person got into a conflict. When an officer arrived he at first had trouble finding the parents who called, then no further communication about the incident was heard. KOSCIUSKO, Miss.–A runaway teenager was found quickly by an Attala County deputy Saturday afternoon. The deputy reported the missing girl, age 15, about 5:11 p.m. in the area of Attala Rd. 1005, and Hwy. 14 west, which is south of the Kosciusko city limits. About seven minutes later the deputy told dispatchers he had found the girl on the edge of the woods and was taking her back home. The Kosciusko Whippets will host a jamboree at Landrum Field to close out the spring football season. The jamboree will be held Thursday, May 9 beginning at 4:00 pm. Teams participating include Kosciusko, Grenada, Winston Academy, Leake Central, JZ George, and East Webster. Spring football jamboree games consist of two regulation periods followed by one quarter of junior varsity. The Kosciusko Lady Whippets were back home tonight on Peggy Ables softball field playing the Lady Knights of West Lauderdale in a must win game 2 in a best of 3 games in the third round of the 4A playoffs. The Lady Whippets lost game one of the series 1-0 Thursday night in Collinsville. The Lady Knights were leading 2-0 in the top of the 5th inning but the Lady Whippets came back to score 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th to take a brief 3-2 lead in the game. It was all on the line Saturday evening when the Kosciusko Whippets baseball team returned home to host the Ripley Tigers in game two of the third round of the Region III-4A playoffs.  Having come up short in the first game of the series, the Whippets had to win to continue their quest for the championship. After a hard-fought game, the Whippets fell to the Tigers with a final score of 9-4.
