“Positive patient experiences start with small acts of kindness. The simple act of a sharing a smile as you pass someone in the corridor, and an acknowledgement by saying hello cultivates a positive culture and caring environment. This month during Patient Experience Month at Albury Wodonga Health we are asking staff to #BeAHelloHero. The challenge is set – can you #BeAHelloHero? – a smile and quick hello can make a big difference to their day, and your own .” We just love this story as it really highlights that kindness has a big impact and is a team effort – the more we show kindness, the mo ..read more

“A nice man carrying a bulky parcel, offered to help a women carry her pram down the tube steps. Parcel in one arm, the other clutching the base of the pram, they slowly got to the bottom step by step. What a gent! But as they turned the corner, they faced another set of stairs, and I could see the chap gulp, with his parcel still under arm. Here I recognised my chance for a Sarah Browning moment, and jumped in to say – if I carry your parcel, you’ll be free to help her pram again. He smiled. She smiled. And we merrily reached the bottom of the stairs. Arms in tact. Big grins all around. My co ..read more

This month’s guest blog highlights the impact you can have when you support other people to share their stories. Rupa and Vardeep are experienced communication professionals who bring their skills to this area of kindness and share practical suggestions for how you can do the same. Throughout our working lives, we’ve both had moments of thinking, “Where are the women who look like me?’’ Once you start asking that question, it’s difficult to unsee the lack of diversity, and this realisation brought us together. We’re two creative business founders from South Asian backgrounds who got talking wh ..read more

“I was shopping with my teenager for a prom outfit for after her exams. We went into the changing rooms and it looked like all the cubicles were full. There was another Mum standing outside one of the cubicles while her child tried some things on and she told me that there was an empty one further along where we couldn’t see it. She and I then had a lovely chat about the highs and lows of clothes shopping for our kids while they were trying things on! She even recommended a place we could look for a prom outfit.” We hope you both found the perfect outfit and the kids have a great time! Even mo ..read more
