Another year of weddings is ramping up and we’re taking a look back at Florin and Jenna’s spectacular day. From initial fittings to final touches, we love hearing about how our couples’ big days came to life. Groom, Florin was kind enough to share his and Jenna’s story with us.   As with all our grooms, we wanted to know why Florin chose to wear a kilt on his wedding day and why he chose MacGregor and MacDuff. Florin explained, “I’m originally from Romania and have lived in Glasgow since 2013 so I thought that wearing a kilt on my wedding day would be a good way to honour the Scottish cu ..read more

What is the History of St. Patrick? What started as a religious holiday in the early 17th century, has become a worldwide celebration of Irish culture. With green beer and quirky costumes, St. Patrick's Day is now very different from the day of feast that the church originally proclaimed it to be. Officially, the day commemorates St. Patrick and the arrival of Christianity to Ireland. It is held on the 17th of March as this is thought to be the anniversary of St. Patrick’s death. He was born in what was then known as Roman Britain and first travelled to Ireland as a young boy. While finding co ..read more

Scotland's Oldest Tartan Glen Affric Brought Back to Life

Scotland’s oldest known tartan has been brought back to life. Discovered in a peaty bog in the 1980s, the remains of this fabric have been recreated into a tartan that can now be enjoyed by highlandwear lovers across the world.   Named after Glen Affric in the Scottish Highlands where it was found, research has proven that the piece of tartan dates back as far as the 16th century. This places the tartan as being created during the reign of James V, Mary Queen of Scots or James VI and predating clan tartans which were popularised in the early 19th century. The fabric underwent rigorous tes ..read more

The 77th BAFTA’s took place on the 18th of February and while the room was filled with the usual pageantry, there was one outfit that stood out from the rest. Award winning actor David Tennant graced the awards wearing a kilt, not just any kilt, a MacGregor and MacDuff kilt.   The host of the awards chose a very contemporary look to highlight his Scottish nationality. From the bottom up, David chose to wear a pair of very stylish ghillie brogue boots. These are a contemporary twist to formal brogues and are great for pairing with both formal and casual kilt outfits. We were thrille ..read more

The History of Scotland's Iconic Kilt

Scotland's iconic relationship with the kilt began as far back as the 16th century when wool became an affordable and effective material for clothing. Before sheep and wool were established in the highlands, people would wear clothes made from linen and while cheap, it was better suited for climates much further south than the highlands of Scotland. Wool on the other hand is naturally weather-resistant and a great insulator, perfect for the harsh Scottish conditions.   Why did Scots start wearing kilt? Firstly, it’s important to note that back in the late 16th century, there weren’t peop ..read more

by Monique McPhie

Every year on January 25th, people worldwide commemorate the incredible life and work of Robert Burns. The inaugural Burns Night was held in 1801, five years after his death, by a group of his close friends at the Burns Cottage in Alloway. The evening consisted of various performances and speeches, accompanied by a classic haggis dinner. The first Burns Supper was so well-received that the group decided to make it an annual event, henceforth celebrated each year on Burns' birthday. For centuries, the Burns Supper has remained true to its roots. Dressed in their finest kilt outfits, attendees ..read more
