Dementia Matters in Powys (DMiP), which operates Dementia Meeting Centres across the county, could face closure by the end of the year if significant investment is not secured, the independent charitable organisation has warned. DMiP have today announced they "very much regret" that following disappointing news regarding funding they have had to make the difficult decision to issue a 3-month notice to all staff and without additional funding will be forced to close at the end of December 2023. The Welsh Government has commissioned Opinion Research Services (ORS) to undertake an evaluation of its Dementia Action Plan 2018-2022. As part of this a survey has been launched to understand people’s experiences of dementia diagnosis, and the subsequent support offered or needed. It is designed to be completed by someone living with a dementia diagnosis (with support if needed), OR by a carer of a person living with dementia, OR both together. On Thursday, August 11, Dementia Matters in Powys held an afternoon of games and entertainment at Llandewi Village Hall. Many members of the charity, volunteers, and carers turned out for the afternoon to help out and provide visitors with food and refreshments, before an afternoon of fun and games. Powys has the lowest rate of diagnosis of dementia in the UK, as of November 2019 under 50% diagnosis rate with a recorded 1600 individuals diagnosed with dementia in Powys.
