Brentford head to Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon for a game where victory will only increase the pressure on a Burnley side already 10 points adrift of safety. Brentford head to Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon for a game where victory will only increase the pressure on a Burnley side already 10 points adrift of safety. Make that 11 when you factor in the brutal goal difference being experienced by a team who haven’t won in the league since prior to Christmas. That said, they came awfully close last time out. Leading 2-0 against West Ham at half time, a much sought-after victory seemed we ..read more

The narrowest of defeats on the road will be no consolation for Thomas Frank after battling Brentford did all but deny Arsenal their ascendency to the top of the Premier League table. A 2-1 win for The Gunners, secured by Kai Havertz’s controversial 85th minute goal, saw them leapfrog both Manchester City and Liverpool ahead of their meeting at Anfield. The stay at the top, no matter how short, is Mikel Arteta’s to enjoy. Whatever. For Brentford, the fact that Havertz was even on the pitch to finally break the resolute Bees’ back line is a matter of conjecture. That’s the polite word. His ..read more

Brentford travel to the Emirates for a game with Arsenal where victory for the hosts would see them leapfrog Liverpool and Manchester City, who meet on Sunday, to the top of the Premier League table. For Arsenal, this is an opportunity as irrelevant to Brentford as anything else. That’s on them – the Greg Norman of football. A team perenially snatching title defeat from the jaws of glory. Surely they won’t choke it, again? Surely? To be fair, they are on a phenomenal run at present. 7(seven) successive league wins have seen the Gunners scoring goals for fun as they close in on top spot. L ..read more

Brentford return to the familiar environment of the Gtech, looking for a return to winning ways following Monday night’s reverse away to West Ham. Nick Bruzon previews. Had a referee been present in that one, things may well have ended level at half-time with the Bees in the driving seat. Instead, a stonewall penalty shout was turned down by Michael Oliver and when the teams re-emerged for the second period, it was the hosts who took advantage of an uncharacteristically off-par defence. The bad news for Brentford is that with Ethan Pinnock already missing, it seems like Ben Mee will now b ..read more

Monday night’s defeat for Brentford at the London 2012 Olympic Stadium, as frustrating a result in practice as it was on paper. A day that began leapfrogged by Everton after their ten-point deduction for cheating was reduced to six, ended with West Ham picking up their first ever Premier League points against us. At the sixth time of asking. The 4-2 reverse coming in a game where the Bees’ defence didn’t so much park the bus as leave it behind at the depot. What price Ethan Pinnock’s value? The player who has been leading our regular ‘star man’ and overall player of the season polls for so ..read more

If ever there were opponents that Brentford seem to love playing against it is West Ham. Nick Bruzon previews the Bees’ Monday evening trip to the London Stadium. Five Premier League wins out of five for the Bees is a sequence that began with Wissa’s wonderful last-minute winner at the London 2012 Olympic Stadium back in that opening top-flight season. Win has followed win – often accompanied by all manner of cat-calling (meow) – right up to this November when Neal Maupay opened proceedings in a game that would ultimately finish with a 3-2 win for the Bees. That game, let’s not forget, wa ..read more

Alas, there was to be no repeat of last season’s quite wonderful result at The Ethiad. Instead, Manchester City earned a 1-0 win over a Brentford side who, despite spending huge periods of this game on the back foot (City with 25 shots and 70% possession), had their own chances to win this one. For The Bees, Thomas Frank chose to mix things up a little. Zanka came in for Nathan Collins, Wissa in place of Neal Maupay and Frank Onyeka for Mathias Jensen. They were changes that worked quite magnificently as, with total respect to those replaced, The Bees looked ten times better than against L ..read more

February is beginning to have an air of déjà vu at the Gtech for Brentford. Saturday saw another game against the pretenders to the title. Another game where the Bees dominated the opening half before being undone with the interval approaching. Likewise, another game where the opposition allowed us nothing. But enough about referee Michael Oliver. The yellow cards not shown to the visitors, resplendent in a shade described by one North stand observer as ‘Milka lilac’, were perplexing to say the least. Equally so the non-penalty awarded to Brentford after Andy Robertson ploughed through Iva ..read more

Saturday lunchtime sees one of those fixtures that always gets the pulse racing. Brentford welcome Liverpool to the Gtech for a game that, historically, has only seen us up to our arm pits in excitement. The opening Premier League campaign’s see-saw 3-3 one in which Ivan Toney was denied a famous winner by the offside flag. Then, last season, the margin of our 3-1 victory could have been even greater but for VAR. Plus ça change. However, with this most maligned of systems coming to Brentford’s aid at a crucial point in our 2-0 win at Wolves last week, let’s not be too harsh. That game saw ..read more

What a quite wonderful difference having an extra couple of players can make. Brentford beat Wolves 2-0 at Molineux on Saturday, looking like a team transformed. It has been well documented (in Brentford, at least) how much The Bees have been decimated by absentees for huge swathes of the season. Yet suddenly that challenge feels like it is nowhere near as grim as earlier in the campaign when even Buzzette was getting perilously close to making the match day squad. The returning Ivan Toney has hit the ground running. He looks fitter than the proverbial butcher’s dog and sharp as a knife. T ..read more
