These Seattle historic casement windows built by Westbrook in our wood shop are exact period replications of the 100 year old windows in the rest of this Madison Park historic home. As you can see in the photos there is a tremendous amount of shop work that is involved. The investment in the proper machinery, the proper shop space to work in, and the time spent to learn and practice historic carpentry mortice and tenon joinery, are of a great value to my customers. This is because there are very few carpentry craftsman available today that have all of these components in a singular personalize ..read more

Custom Cabinetry Built to Match Existing Kitchen

This custom cabinetry was built and installed to match the existing plywood kitchen cabinets. The original cabinets at some time had the doors replaced with 3/4″ plywood doors. These were a kind of 50’s update to the original and the customer wanted to match what they had. Although this is a more humble look compared to other custom cabinetry Ive built, it certainly wasn’t easy. For one thing the measurements needed to be precise because there wasn’t room for error. The reason is because the cabinets needed to fit from wall to wall, accommodate a zero clearance inset refrigerator, and the coun ..read more

Custom Manufactured Historic Windows by Westbrook Seattle

These windows were manufactured and installed by Westbrook for a Seattle historic home to match existing millwork. Making historic windows is what I would consider part of the millwork of any building, especially as part of the architectural component of historic homes. Windows are not much different than any other millwork project we custom make in our shop. They should be made to match seamlessly to historic design and also be made to historic specifications right down to mortice and tenon joinery. Otherwise the windows wont last another 100 years, or have a capacity to be repaired properly ..read more

This front of my shop became a memorial to my past career as a tradesman and the craftspeople Ive worked with along the way over the years. My dad, Ed, John, and many, many others, I give many thanks to them for sharing this journey with me teaching and sharing the ride. Everything you see here on the front of my wood shop are materials recycled from other projects over the years. Front Porch Stair Historic Architectural Replication

This little front porch, stair case built by Westbrook not long ago, was a collaboration between myself and the owner. The client wanted to have a historically accurate vintage stair entry, that looked like it has been a part of the home form the beginning. Also with a large family and kids, it was necessary to have a space outside the porch that could be used to hang out on and take a lot of abuse. We chose to go with vertical grain cedar on all components for added longevity. I also pre primed all the wood before installation. On a project like this there is a combination of  best moder ..read more
