Trump Is Old And Tired But That’s Not What Makes Him Objectively Terrible

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but old people get tired. Which is why disgraced former president Donald Trump fell asleep during day one of his criminal trial regarding giving hush money to Stormy Daniels that came from his 2016 campaign funds. Which is hella illegal. According to New York Times journalist Maggie Haberman (a long-time Trump apologist), Trump “appeared to nod off a few times, his mouth going slack and his head drooping onto his chest” and that his attorney “passed him notes for several minutes before Mr. Trump appeared to jolt awake and notice them.” But, I mean, who amon ..read more

There’s no clear path that leads to standing behind a set of turntables. A love of music is definitely required. A socially outgoing personality would be a plus. A sense of creativity helps. Prolific Pittsburgh DJ/Event Curators HUNY and Rojo definitely have those things. But it was their sense of awareness that led them behind the console. They both sensed that Pittsburgh’s queer dance scene could greatly benefit from their presence and influence and they were right. Now we’re shaking our asses like never before! HUNY HUNY. HUNY moved to Pittsburgh from New York City ten years ago. She was no ..read more

We were waiting for this moment: Elliot Page is back and ready for his close-up again. It’s been a while since we’ve seen him at the multiplex — after coming out as transgender in 2020, The “Umbrella Academy” star hasn’t starred in a narrative feature — but that all changes with “Close to You,” a film from writer-director Dominic Savage. The story concerns a young trans man returning to his hometown for a family event, his father’s birthday, and drama ensues as he deals with unresolved issues. “Sound of Metal” actor Hillary Baack co-stars in an unspecified role alongside a mostly Canadian supp ..read more

In a letter to the School Board of Cumberland Valley School District, Pittsburgh City Controller Rachael Heisler blasted the board’s recent decision to uninvite actor Maulik Pancholy because of his “lifestyle”. Heisler attended Cumberland Valley High School. Pancholy, who is gay, was originally slated to give an anti-bullying presentation at Mountain View Middle School. “He is proud of his lifestyle, and I don’t think that should be imposed upon our students, at any age,” School Board Member Bud Shaffner said of Pancholy. As president of the Steel City Stonewall Democrats, it is extremely gratifying to write to my community about how thrilled I am to see so much more LGBTQIA+ representation on the ballot than I have ever seen.  Whether for Auditor General, State House Representative, or Convention Delegate, our community is making our way onto the ballot, into government, and into decision-making.  And don’t get me wrong, I appreciate our allies – love them to the moon and back, really—but allies are no substitute for LGBTQIA+ people at the table to represent ourselves.   Let’s start wi ..read more

The Case For Non-Traditional Wedding Ceremonies

by Travis Barkefelt

We’ve all been to a wedding ceremony before. Typically, held in a church or religious building, sometimes somewhere more interesting if the couple wants to be more unique or has enough money or some combination of the two. But typically, the ceremony goes relatively untouched. Every culture has its own wedding traditions, sure, but within those cultures, weddings tend to be fairly similar. To make things worse, if you’re in your mid to late ‘20’s, chances are you’ve been going to a lot of weddings; and let’s be frank, they tend to blend together. Sure, you’re happy for the couple, and sure, it ..read more

Lies, Lies — and the Conservatives Who Tell Them in Order to Assert Their Dominance

I know that this is going to come as a shock to everyone, but I have to say it: The folks who want to ban transgender people from public bathrooms and overturn the Supreme Court’s marriage equality ruling are the same folks who want to ban abortion across the country in all forms and for all reasons. OK, this obviously is not shocking news. But it is important for LGBTQ+ people to know that the fight over abortion rights and the fight over LGBTQ+ rights is the same fight. I remember when I first started writing this column two decades ago; I would often say that straight people act like they h ..read more
