I met Vivian before she even started her dog training business, and when I learnt she got her certification in Training without Conflict, I had to learn more about it because she’s the only certified play-centric dog trainer in Ottawa and her whole approach sounded so interesting! If you’re curious about Vivian’s new business, Dacapo Dog Club, you can take a look at my interview with her below and let me know what you think! *Before I start, I think it’s important to say that some subjects in the dog world, especially dog training, are very controversial. If you don’t agree with Vivian’s appro ..read more

I’m VERY late to adding this amazing place in Westboro to my blog. As you will be able to tell in the photos, Tofu is wearing boots!!! Benji, the little prince that he is, will not wear them. We were here in March this year when we took these photos, and I can’t begin to tell you how dog-friendly and pleasant this little shop is. Pokoloko is a little artisan store located in Westboro, Ottawa, offering hand-crafted goods from around the globe. They have different apparels, accessories, towels and home goods and share the space with CloudForest Coffee. They have about 2 or 3 small tables and ch ..read more

8 Fenced-In Parks in Ottawa to Let your Dog Run Off-Leash
Kiwi's Photography Blog

We all know of parks such as Bruce Pit and Conroy Pit, which are both off leash parks in Ottawa that can be accessed by the public. I personally never use these parks as they are too high-risk for my littles and we’ve had some bad experiences in the past. Many of you have expressed similar concerns, so I’ve decided to put together a list of fenced-in, off-leash parks in and around Ottawa that you can rent to safely let your dog explore and run without having to worry about your small dog being stepped on, being attacked or your dog attacking another one. Listed in alphabetical order: Barkwoo ..read more

This super cute and cozy plant shop has a modern boho vibe and not only will you find lots of amazing plants, the cafe area is set up with beautiful egg chairs, earth toned leather couches and wooden tables that will make you feel right at home. Benji at Haus of Plants, sitting at the window seat waiting for his coffee. Benji is wearing his bandana from Pineapple Paws (Use code KIWI20 for 20% off). Sunrise Session with Lambi & Carib in Ottawa
Kiwi's Photography Blog
by Hanako Soncini
1y ago
In early September last year, I had the chance to meet Lambi and Carib, two potcake sisters rescued from Carriacou, Grenada. Lambi & Carib’s mom was working at the vet hospital as a volunteer at the time. One day, one of the residents, a fisherman, came by to ask if he could rehome some puppies. The owners had been asking him to take the puppies out to drown them. The next day, he came back with the only 2 puppies he could find. They were sandy and covered in fleas and ticks. Lambi & Carib’s (now) owner had lost her yorkie the previous year, and was planning on adopting a dog, so she ..read more

Summer in Ottawa, with Timber the Swedish Valhund

Back in spring, I held a HUGE contest featuring some of my favorite local businesses such as Wolfpakstitchin and Inspired by Pippa. The biggest winning prize was a free photo session with myself and a 16×24 acrylic float mount to showcase the winning pet. So who ended up winning the first prize? The cutest potato I had ever seen: Timber, a Swedish Valhund. I had never heard of this breed before and at first, I thought he was some kind of a corgi mixed with a potato (sorry Timber). Little did I know that His majesty the Potato was a purebred dog originally named Alkemi Dogwood LT, from Buffalo ..read more

Let me know in the comments so I can add it to the list! Dog-Friendly PUBS in the Byward Market Aulde Dubliner & Pour HouseTwo-storey Irish pub. Dogs are allowed on the patio downstairs. Shiro, which means “white” in Japanese, is (you already guessed it) a beautiful white fluffy dog with a cute little curly tail! I’ve met Shiro about 2 years ago and I was so excited when his mom booked his photo session because he is SO photogenic, as you can tell. Shiro at the Mackenzie King Estate in Gatineau Shiro comes from Nunavut and he absolutely LOVES the snow, so his mom waited for months to book a winter session. I’m glad she did, because the photos turned out gorgeous! Shiro’s life started out rough, and he’s so lucky to have found such a caring family he can now call his own ..read more
